That's a much bigger frick up than what they've done with Ramsay. He's still Evil Marty McFlay in both the show and the books.

But in the books he's not very cunning and less ambitious. He's basically Roose's psychopathic assassin. Roose is the brains behind the Bolton takeover and is a much better character than Ramsey.

but what does Tyrion bring to the table that Barriston doesn't. I think the show killed him off in order to make Dany need Tyrion and his westeros views work.

Barriston had to die in order for Tyrion to enter the picture. I doubt Dany accepts Tyrion's counsel if Barriston is still around to let her know what a drunk whore monger Tyrion is.

There's more to Tyrion than being a drunk whore monger that even Barristan would have to admit. Tyrion has more knowledge than anyone else about dragons, knows more about the enemies she'll be facing than anyone, has a great resume, and will actually give Dany good council that she needs from someone besides Barristan. I think Barristan would do it grudgingly and reluctantly, but he would tell Dany that Tyrion is needed, as I also think he'll do in the book.

Barriston is not a political man. He and Jorah were more of a redundancy than him and Tyrion.

Barriston was there to show her the truth of her past, Tyrion is there to make her future happen.

Barriston had no clue about this when he left the kingsguard in season 1. What resume does Barriston know based on HIS time with Tyrion in kingslanding

Probably true, but with the financial and time restraint with the show, I assuming the writers felt they could combine the two characters into Tyrion.

Ambitious maybe, but I'd say he's more cunning in the books. The whole way he had the original reak killed and infiltrated winterfell was pretty fricking clever.

He lived in KL for years, with Jamie at his side, Cercei above him, and Tyrion making visits to KL I'm sure. He's probably heard all there is to hear about Tyrion

I always got the impression that the Sack of Winterfell was ordered by Roose because of Ramsey's instance that the Frey wards not be harmed.

Possibly, but even if Roose ordered that via Raven, it still doesn't discount Ramsey having reak killed, assuming his identity, entrusting himself to Theon, convincing Theon to fake the Stark kids' murders after bringing their extra clothes along, then tricking Theon again into believing that he could get reinforcements when he was actually bringing his own men to retake winterfell.

The eventual sacking and destroying evidence was probably the least clever thing he did.

Did you read the fricking book? Roose even tells Theon the story of how and why he gave the original reak to Ramsey.
