So, Cat and Pyter killing the heads of multiple major houses while manipulating a third major house into committing regiside and simultaneously getting Petyr named as both Warden of the North, vicarious ruler of the Vail, and King of the Trident isn't grand? Had everything gone according to plan, Cat and Petyr would have owned half the Seven Kingdoms.

I think my head hurts and I spend too much time thinking about the futures of people who do not exist.

Eventually in that plan, Cat would have to slay her own children. You think that would make a lick of sense?

Cat had good qualities?
Yes. She put her family above everything (paralleling Cersei), but did that with some humanity. She also had some wisdom about the big picture. She definitely wasn't perfect, but her meddling didn't get Robb killed - his own weakness did.
Maybe BBIII is right - despite in all likelihood not being Ned's son at all, Jon may end up being more Ned-like. He's stuck by that oath until death. Robb let his heart lead him astray at exactly the wrong moment. He also tried to do the Ned-thing, without Ned's wisdom and experience.
Ned would likely have taken the Karstark aside and said, "This barbarity will have to be repaid when this is all over. I should kill you right now, but I cannot afford that at this point in the war. I should send a son or daughter to Cersei as repayment or at least a hostage against your future good behavior. You will lead the van for the foreseeable future. You have the opportunity to re-earn your life and perhaps avoid taking the black. Do not fail me again at your peril."
THAT'S leadership. Killing those cats was self-indulgent bullshite in the middle of a war.

Not if those children weren't Ned's in the first place. Arya was, but the others were all Cat and Petyr. That's why Cat always played favorites. She hated Ned's children, especially Jon.

I was just thinking and not sure if had been covered yet, but with the realization that Melisandre probably being 4 centuries old, would she know the process for making valyrian steel which was lost during the Doom of Valyria which according to the timeline was somewhere around 400 years before the War of the Five Kings.
I do believe that she said she was originally a slave in Valyria and had a mark on her cheek. Jon mentioned the lack of Valyrian swords around and the ones that were wouldn't be lent to Night's Watch. If only there were a capable blacksmith middling around somewhere looking for a safe place and to put his talents to work.... Que Gendry in a boat

Game of Thrones S6:E1 "The Red Woman" BOOK READERS
That would be the dumbest and most convoluted plan of all time
"Okay now all we have to do it be faithfully married for 20 years and THEN shite GETS REAL"
Not to mention we can read Cat's thoughts in the book and that never comes up.

Jon is almost certainly not Ned's biological child. I still think it's possible the Dayne thing has a teency bit of merit, but if R+L does not equal J - I'll eat my hat.
ETA: Doesn't affect your broader point - Cat couldn't possibly have known that.

A post in the Hodor thread would be the end all, I am not recommending this just pondering the fallout.
