I've been skeptical of Syrio's death since reading Book 1. And when his final scene in season 1 virutally matched that of the book, my skepticism grew. I think we see him again TBH.

But he would've been killed. He poked that bear, there's no "capture" at that point.

It's one of the crackpot theories that I like to think is true.
I just always figured that Syrio just disarmed/beat Trant like he did the others, and then just offered to be taken as a prisoner knowing that he could just escape with someone else's face (Jaqen), and find Arya again.
Again, I know it is a crackpot theory. But we will find out if the crackpot theory is right or wrong after this episode.

I think this theory may have some weight to it, but can you express it as an equation? Otherwise I don't think anyone will take it seriously. How about "1SoB=/=D" ?

To be fair, we never saw what happened between him and Trant. Only heard clashing. Syrio was nimble as frick. It is not inconceivable by any stretch that he was able to get a real sword from one of the laid out randoms and rain holy hell down on Trant. He has Trant incapacitated when the reinforcements show up, boom, he's taken into custody. JUST before that Lord Eddard had just given ole' boy permission to scour the dungeons. SF=JH hits the dungeons just in time to be loaded up in the cage to for transport to the wall.

It's a little like the Better Call Saul finale last season IMO. The Gus Fring anagram was figured out beforehand so Gilligan axed it.
In this case I think they LSH stuff was already included this season and GRRM went out of his way to discredit it, to throw people off the trail.
It will be a crazy moment for sure, esp if the actress for Cat ends up coming back.
