ouch, I just went back to that scene....robert says "must have been a rare wench for Lord Stark to forget his honor, you never even told me what she looked like"

so I must have remembered incorrectly when Ned said to him "she was one of yours"....he was talking about "bessie" and her "great big tits"...I thought he was talking about wiona

If one of the theories is correct, that was a super awkward moment for Ned.

Yeah - Ned's look made it clear to me that no way in hell JS was his actual child - but the question remains - "Whose kid was it?"

I'm just stuck on Cersi saying black haired bird. I was rewatching it with the a girl who hadn't seen it before...and when I heard her say that I had a "WTF" moment. I checked ages of Joff and Jon, and saw 1 year apart I was like "no way".....and have tried to build a case around it.

But I'm reaching in why Ned would take a kid that's not his and hide the fact that it's not his.

But, with that writer, could just be a red herring, and Ned did tag a wench and Jon is his kid and nothing ever comes of it.

I think he's implying that the honorable Ned Stark knocked up his best friend's girl. There are many reasons that doesn't fit, the only thing in favor of this theory is the secrecy over Jon Snow's mother. Why keep it a secret if it was just some bar maid or some random lady that doesn't affect the story? Why would Ned take the child? Leaving a baby with the mother would seem like the proper course of action, unless you're worried that your BFF might notice his son looked an awful lot like his best friend when he grew up.

I don't think it's an implausible theory, but I do think it is crazy and unlikely.

I've actually only heard this theory this season - and it does have legs - I just subscribe to the other theory - for a variety of reasons I won't rehash -as I've already had to edit too much today.

Is Gendry older than Snow? Because if so, then mine makes no sense anymore I'd imagine....because wouldn't black haired bird have been born before Gendry.

I don't think any of the ages are all that clear in the show - readers have explained to me that there is a significant shift, overall (in that the characters on the show are 3 to 4 years, generally, older than their counterparts in the books - although that gap is closing somewhat - at least based on the aging of the child actors.)

But as far as telling whether or not Snow or Gendry are older -

Having said that, Gendry is a better candidate to be the "black-haired bird" than Snow - in my mind - for a whole host of reasons, but I don't think he is, either.

That could work. Robert never acknowledged him...because he didn't know about him. And gentry did have some unnamed Lord financing him.

Lannisters faked the death...but couldn't kill him.

I think we can all agree that he will end up nit being the son of Ned and a whore.

Or, knowing GRRM's hatred for traditional heroes, maybe everyone is supposed to wonder. Then, at the end, it's revealed that nope, he's just the son of a whore, but he still managed to become king. Weiner wiener!

That's where I lose the theory - why on Earth would the Lannisters fake the death of an actual legitimate Baratheon heir, out of Cersei? Isn't that exactly what they wanted? Certainly it wasn't Tywin's plan to have Cersei and Jaime have 2 children/nephews and a daughter/niece together?

He didn't want 3 double grandchildren, who were also his great-nephews and great-niece, did he?

So, if the "black-haired bird" theory is correct and the child somehow lived (and whomever that turns out to be) it had to be someone else doing the hiding - IMHO - not the Lannisters - for reasons as yet revealed (heck, maybe it was done by the Lord of Light's followers so he would be available for Milesandre.)

I agree, it doesn't make sense.

Maybe he cared about the mother of the child?

Unless she's dead

I agree with you though, I don't see how the Cersei theory pans out.

Haven't read this in awhile just want to address some questions to me,

quote:

"The Martells will be more pissed now that they know, for a fact, a Lanister bannermen murdered Elia Martell and her offspring."
-my original statement

quote:

why?

Because they have proof the Lanisters were behind it. What do you mean why? I guarantee we will see some type of lash back now that the mountain confessed.

quote:

Tywin already told him that the Mountain killed his sister. He was trying to get the Mountain to admit that Tywin ordered it.

But he failed, and it was awesomely gross.

No he did not, Do you guys even pay attention? He denied it LINK Here is the link to prove it. The Viper did not believe him though.

Just because we know something to be true does not mean everyone in Westeros does. And because everyone is talking about Gendry now and some wonder what claim he has to the throne. I leave you with this quote.

"You've heard the awful rumors about my brother and sister?...I suppose people who do believe that filth consider Robert's bastards to be better claimants to the throne than Cersei's children."

I'm pretty sure Tywin said that The Mountain was not given orders to do it, but that he can't always control "wild beasts" or something to that effect.

I can't watch the clip right now.

Yeah, but that shadow from the previews is gonna happen sometime for some reason. Although, the way tv is, it will probably be the last shite of the last episode, just to get us all anxious (and buy the books).
