to draw out the forces of castle black in the open, leaving castle black without a defense

Clearly they let the little tyke go tell the crows what they were doing to draw them into the open. They're unsure of the current compliment, and want to bleed them in relatively easier open engagements - they know they have the numbers. Once they figure out there are ~100 (and not 1000) at Castle Black, Mance will just assault from both sides at once - at least, that is how I interpret his plan - put wildlings on both sides of CB and force them to defend in both directions, with little chance of relief - he could just bypass them if there were an easier way to get large numbers south of the wall, but once he realizes CB is so weakened in manpower, he should assault when he assembles his forces on the north side.
Maybe so. I took it as a "let those motherfrickers know we're coming" kind of thing rather than an attempt to actually draw them out. But I guess that could've been the strategy.

but, again, how vulnerable to counter attack are they?
Well Tywin made a deal with Oberyn specifically because the Martell's had been known as the only ones that were able to consistently defeat the targ dragons, right?

Is Olenna planning on Margaery marrying Tommen? Her "the next one should be easier" comment (or whatever she said) makes me wonder.
I believe so. She also made a comment about the situation not changing just because Joff was dead.

Correct. Tywin gets the knowhow of defeding against dragons and Oberyn gets the Mountain.

There's no way that Oberyn believes or trusts Tywin.

The wildling siege on that camp was brutal. I bet Sam is now rethinking his sending that girl to live outside of Castle Black.

Or maybe I'm just rationalizing because I love the kingslayer.
if you loved him, you wouldn't call him that.

Decent episode, although not too much really happened
can't have a main character death every week. i liked this episode.

Tywin was bossing it up all episode
hell yes

I assume he has to die at some point, but I hope not because he's still easily my favorite character
i also hope not. i think the power the lannisters have would die with him. the only one of his kids that's hellbent on having power is cersei it seems. and she lets her count-iness get in the way.

does look that way based on her remarks. how old is that kid i wonder? seems like he was like 6 at blackwater.
quote:
Could've done without the Arya/Hound scenes
i could watch these two fill out insurance paperwork.

They need to go somewhere with Daenerys fricking fast. The rinse/repeat thing of her moving from city to city is getting tiresome. And we didn't even see dragons this week. As much as I love that chick, she needs to get to the sea fricking SOON
i hear ya, but building an army is tough apparently.

I'm worried one of these men may think about you and touch you, so I'll send you to live in a whore house in a seeming lawless land. Excellent plan.

yea, Sam's just being a huge cock block.
I think there's a part of the Night's Watch vow about not being a cock block.

I think its pretty clear that its building toward a Dany/Westeros showdown for all the marbles and that its going to be late in the series by necessity.
Once Dany hits the sea, it forces something to happen with her storyline. Either she loses and her storyline ends, or she wins and all the other stories in Westeros end and it becomes Dany conquering Westeros. They cant afford to throw down that many chips until late in the series.
Too much of the story relies on dany staying the frick away for now. Literally the entire show changes the second she tries for Westeros.

I think so. He just looks older because the previous actor was recast with an older one.

I believe this past episode was his first lines in the show, right? Seems like he's much better than that idiot Joff.

I don't need (or want) a main cahracter death every week. But "main character death" =/= plot advancement. Just seemed like most of the storylines were fairly stagnant this week, outside of a few things.

I do agree with that, and I love the two of them together and always enjoy their scenes...I just felt like this week their scenes, even though enjoyable, were relatively wasted on nothing really happening outside of Arya getting mad at Hound for stealing the silver.

He's spoken before as a little kid IIRC. And last week, he had minimal lines at the wedding. He was laughing at Tyrion at one point, and I believe apologized to him when he saw that Tyrion was offended.

Well - at least at a whorehouse, there are other women available, and they're working whores. Why rape a girl, and incur that risk, when there are whores available - I guess that's his thought process. He's worried that a crow would force himself on her, and Sam would have to take the unfortunate step of getting killed by that guy - his so-called "brother" in defending Gilly's honor.
I guess he rationalizes it - if she starts working at a whore in Mole's Town, it will likely be voluntary on her part...
