Anyone check this out?

I didn’t know anything about formula 1 going into it, and still found it incredibly addictive. Some solid drama and characters, but it did feel like certain narratives were incoherent at times. Also, the show not focusing on the two main teams and their drivers was extremely noticeable.

All in all I thought it was really solid, and visually it looked pretty stunning. Fans of formula 1 might feel differently, but for an outsider with zero knowledge of the sport I enjoyed it.

I've watched the first episode so far. It's clearly designed to bring in new fans. They explain a lot of stuff that is basic knowledge.

Yes, it's unfortunate that Mercedes and Ferrari didn't participate in this project that's intended to help improve the future health of the sport. Three of the biggest drivers (Hamilton, Vettel, and Raikkonen) won't appear in the show. I read that the F1 owner Liberty Media is trying to make sure they participate in Season 2.

Yeah I just read that Netflix was currently in negotiations with Ferrari & Mercedes too. Hopefully they will all agree to feature.

Got hooked on the first season that followed McLaren. I liked the drama this year with Renault and Red Bull. Good stuff.

Even as a fan of F1, knowing how the battles play out, it was a very enjoyable series.

Honestly, the battles between the mid & lower-tier have been more compelling than the Mercedes vs. Ferrari storylines these past few years. They could’ve gone into way more detail with the whole Renault/Red Bull drama, but I did enjoy the back and forth they showed between Christian and Cyril.

I think both Mercedes and Ferrari gave the excuse of not wanting to reveal their secrets/drama behind the scenes as the reason they didn’t participate in this season. I hope they’ll reconsider their position this upcoming season.

Just started watching this and I find it intriguing. Inspired me to read up on the money behind F1 and that’s quite interesting - very different from how we’re used to seeing things done here in the US. I also had no idea the F1 community was so small with only 20 racers across only 10 teams.

I do wish the show would give a bit more of the “day in the life” of some of these guys. Do they just travel from race to race, or do the drivers fly home on their private jets? Do any of them party like rock stars, or are they all business like the show would seem to indicate (I have to think a couple of them are having booze fueled three-ways in each country )?

And I get the feeling that Ferrari and Mercedes aren’t going to feature too prominently in the show. I guess they didn’t need the money nor publicity.

I watched the first three episodes last night.

The production value is very, very high and the race footage is very cool. Netfix did a great job so far.

My wife even liked it.

Yep same here. When I said I knew nothing about F1 I meant it.

With only having 10 teams and 20 drivers it’s easy to familiarize yourself with them and the teams and you get natural heroes, villains and underdogs.

I think the show did a great job at what was likely it’s primary focus of getting the uninitiated interested in the sport, and explaining it enough so that an outsider is familiar enough with the sport to tune in and follow along. Which is what I plan on doing this week with the first race of 2019.

Depends on how much the drivers are making. The top guys all have private jets. The drivers followed in this documentary usually share private jets from race to race. And as far as partying, you need to read up on Kimi Raikkonen.

This is going to be a dumb question, but one I haven't found an answer to, how do you get to be one of the 10 teams in formula 1? is it simply money, do these ownership groups jsut buy their way in?

I’m aboard Force India bandwagon.

This show is awesome and I hope there’s more seasons to come. Gonna try to keep up with the season In real time from now on. Always wanted too but didn’t really know what was going on. I feel like I have better understanding now

Just in time for the start of the season!

I'm Ferrari all the way, thanks to getting hooked in 2000 when I was introduced to the sport, and Schumacher was getting started at Ferrari. Interest dropped after he left Scuderia, but I'm getting back into the swing of things for the past few seasons.

FWIW - Once the season begins later this month, all of the races will be shown commercial-free, thanks to the Mothers Auto Wax deal with ESPN.

And yes, many of the drivers are jet-setting playboys. When he was coming up, Lewis Hamilton had a tumultuous on-again/off-again relationship with Nicole Sherzinger from Pussycat Dolls/ Masked Singer.

We really don't have an accurate frame of reference here in the US as to just how big of rock stars these guys are on the world stage.

For anyone who has become interested in Formula 1 because of this series, I encourage you to go watch “Senna” from ESPN Films. It is about one of the greatest and most fascinating F1 drivers ever. It is also currently on Netflix.

You’re going to be disappointed this upcoming season, then. Force India no longer exists as Force India and has a new ownership group who took over it last year. In short, a Force India was basically bought out and reformed into a new team called Racing Point F1.

Yeah it was kind of a joke, I just like the former owners haircut and loved the name
Hate the new owner and how he brings his son along to drive for him

I think I’m gonna follow Daniel Ricardo and Renault. Liked him from the show.
