Ut oh! 'Supergirl' isn't cracking the Top 10 Anticipated films for 2026 in China!
But fear not, it DOES make honorable mention on The Direct dot Com's list of Top films by potential box office! After Jumanji 4 and The Mandalorian and Grogu!

I could've told you that. China has given up on comic book films.

Yeah no shite China has lost interest in comic book movies of course this won't be high in their radar.

The absence of Supergirl from Douban’s list does not appear to be the result of generalized “superhero fatigue,” a claim frequently invoked when modern franchise films struggle abroad. Several major Hollywood blockbusters — including Avengers: Doomsday (ranked #1) and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (ranked #6) — placed prominently on the same list, indicating that Chinese audiences remain receptive to big-budget superhero fare.

Pretty ridiculous to compare Supergirl to those films, don't you think?
This film will likely make around 400 mil. According to Puck news, the budget isn't crazy

This is cope on the part of the studio.
"Look! We're not spending too much! James Gunn is doing the right thing!"
It only makes money if they sell enough tickets.
And it was a direct response to the claim of super hero movie fatigue.

Go look up how superhero movies did last year in China. There’s definitely fatigue. Just because Avengers and Spiderman will kill it doesn't mean the genre isn't struggling.

Maybe there’s just too much? Or less interest in another girl boss movie?
Posted on 1/3/26 at 1:26 pm to SouthEasternKaiju
Wow two biggest superhero movie brands aren't as affected as others what a shocker

What makes it a girl boss movie? This is your problem you hardly have any original thought and when you do it's just stupid narratives you make up before knowing anything about the movie or show.

Female superheroes are lame 99% of the time

Whatever.
She’s coming off as gurl Hancock. Why? Don’t know.
The last time we saw a similar lead in to a super level female character was… Captain Marvel.
But there’s a chance it could be… something.
Go ask the Chinese.

0% chance you will see it.
100% chance you'll have 3 dozen posts in the movie thread when it releases.

Why would this be an insult? The Jumanji movies each got close to a billion dollars. Grogu cost a ton and is based on a pair of "beloved" characters. It should have much higher box office expectations than a modestly budgeted Supergirl.

Remember how defensive you got last week when a poster suggested some people here will call any female hero content girl power woke stuff?

This isn’t about me, genius. China isn’t looking forward to seeing it.

Well, 2 and 3 were insanely successful. The original only grossed about 100 million dollars in '95. A bit over 200 million in today's numbers. Not terrible, but far from the billion dollar bench mark.
So yes, Supergirl would be in very good company to reach Jumanji numbers.
