They risk killing the goose that lays the golden egg. The mystery of who the Joker is makes him more... mysterious. Duh, more interesting.

When Heath Ledger hinted at revealing elements of his past, it made it more interesting, but actually revealing it wasn’t necessary. Just made it more intriguing.

I don’t think they are really interested in this origin movie as much as just getting a reboot with Joaquin on board. It’s a great actor, in a great role, in a story that really doesn’t need or should be told in the broader view of the DC universe. It can even hinder character development in future movies.

But if there gonna make it, I’ll definitely go see it.

I feel like they could creatively make this origin story and leave the door open for interpretation. Like the ending of the movie is him in arkum so it leaves the audience with an open ended question of whether what we saw was real or one of his many split personalities version of the story.

Rumor is they are doing a "king of comedy" storyline.

I'd watch a remake of the King of Comedy with De Niro as the talk show host and Phoenix as Rupert Pupkin.

Marc Maron is in the movie, would make sense for him to play a role for stand-up.

"DC has done the best with casting"

You have lost your mind.
Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Robert Downey jr. as Ironman are
the gold standard. Thor, Loki, and Captain America
are spot on.
Aquaman looks just like Prince Namor, the Submariner.
And don't get me started on Afleck as old Batman

While I agree with this, pretty much everyone loved Jack Nicholson as the joker and he had a very clearly laid out origin and purpose.

Phoenix is a great actor, I am excited about the movie, but much more concerning to me than giving the joker a backstory and motive is the lack of Batman. I am not sure how you have a Joker story without Batman. If Batman shows up in the third act as a complete surprise reveal that catalysts this character to take on the full Joker mantle that would be amazing.

You left off McKellan and Fassbender as Magneto which is to me the best casting of any comic book character. Those two absolutely nailed those roles. And McAvoy/Stewart were incredible as well.

Isn’t The Killing Joke considered one of the quintessential and beloved Batman stories?
