Great flick. I've watched it 5 or 6 times. Claire Foy and no make-up is strong.

One note. Watch anything Kyle Chandler is in. He's great in every role but he also seems to choose projects/roles that are great as well. Friday Night Lights, Bloodline, Wolf of Wall Street, First Man among many oithers.

Check out Pure Country. He and Lesley Ann Warren are the only 2 who can act in the whole movie. Very early in his career.

I’m not a Ryan Gosling fan, but really enjoyed the movie. I thought the moon landing at the end was captured very well.

“Buddy Jackson? From the road crew?”

He’s in Zero Dark Thirty also.

It wasn’t exactly overlooked when it came out, it had very solid reviews, but I feel like it didn’t get quite the attention it deserved. I loved it. I especially loved the opening scene.

I'm the opposite. I think he's subdued and great. I've watched Drive several times too, and that other flick with the georgeous latina. Looked it up... A Place Beyond the Pines.

Thought it was solid to damn solid, minus some curious pacing and flat (maybe intentional) finish.

"You're ballooning" and other test scenes painted how G.A.F. & stoic these guys are. And how utterly internalized they are when they're not.

Gosling is a very talented dude. Just rewatched The Nice Guys and hope he & Crowe do another comedy.

didn't they not show them putting the American flag on the moon because that would be too political or something? feel like there was something why people didn't didn't go wild over it

They showed the flag on the moon, and in a couple other instances. They just didn’t show the physical planting of the flag in the ground. Like most movie “controversies” it was way overblown before the movie ever came out

Yep. Those people were morons, and probably never watched the movie. It’s a very “American” film.

The Gemini scene was fantastic. Neil was a badass pilot that was really the opposite in every way from the Mercury guys. He was flashy or a hot shot. But he could fly.

Do you mind explaining what you mean? I remember the Encyclopedia volumes in our house with the awesome pictures for Mercury, Gemini and Appollo. I've read some things online but its hard for a layman to get it, especially with airplanes.

And I feel like that controversy might have hurt the film's box office quite a bit. Which is sad because the flag does show up on the moon, they just don't show the astronauts planting it. Besides...that's not what the film is about anyway. It's a biopic/character study of a man. The flag isn't nearly as important to the film as what happens at the crater near the end of the movie.

Their mission was important because it tested the docking and mating systems and procedures that would be integral to Apollo and the moon. NASA sent up the Agena docking vehicle for Gemini to dock with. When they docked, they noticed the spacecrafts rolling. They decided to undock thinking it was the Agena. Once they lost the extra mass the spacecraft started rolling uncontrollably. Armstrong figured this out and switched to RCS to stop the roll and get it under control before they blacked out. Later they figured out one of the thrusters was stuck on. They used up damn near all of their reentry fuel saving the ship, so then Neil had to basically execute a perfect reentry, which he did.

Painfully underrated movie. Every time I tell someone to watch it they get back to me and tell me how great it was.
