i'd feel better about your opinion if you had just said you "didn't get it".

i didn't get it back in 2014 and never rewatched it until 2 years ago with my wife when she told me she had never seen it. it was almost like watching it for the first time again, and i had a completely different opinion on it. i've probably talked about this movie the most among friends when it comes to Nolan movies besides The Dark Knight.

this movie is a much better experience in IMAX 70mm. a home viewing won't do it as much justice.

Look technically it’s great, acting is great, directing is great, music is great. Story? I just didn’t care. Around the time we see his daughter grown up to be Jessica Chastain who’s taken up in his place….i really just didn’t care anymore. It just didn’t connect with me. And there wasn’t enough there that was wholly original for me to grab onto either. It was just a big beautiful mid movie.

The joke online (Reddit, Letterboxd, film tikotok, various movie podcasts) that shite all o er Interstellar (which I’m not exactly doing) make fun of the “film bro” fans of the movie. The cliche is that if you say you didn’t like it, their response cope is “you didn’t understand it!” I’m not going to be a dick, I’ll just say yes I did get it. As a matter of fact it’s not exactly the most complicated movie to get because Nolan spoonfeeds what’s happening. I just didn’t care. I did not give a shite what would happen to McConaughey. It’s that simple.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours. I am genuinely curious if you have kids. It pulled on my heart strings seeing a father miss his children's life and then reunite w/ them on their deathbed. If I didn't have kids, I probably wouldn't have had the same emotional connection w/ the story.

I feel like im arguing with a woman here.

My critique was tame and I said the discourse around the movie over the last 12 years overrated the movie in my opinion.

you said this

quote:

people who love this movie act like it’s a life changing movie, one of the all time greats, and if you don’t think so then obviously you are an idiot and don’t get the movie.

I said "some people like it more than you"

So yes, i think you are hyperbolically exaggerating the other position (strawmanning) to make you seem "tame" in your critique of it.

f anything I’m not saying anything that has t been said a million times on Reddit

ahhhhhh it makes a lot more sense now.

Gladly. Your takes on the film are just awful.

So everything about the film is great but the movie sucks

Ok peter griffin
That's where I stopped reading.

It's an excellent film. Seeing Matt Damon get blown out into space in the middle of his condescending a-hole speech alone justifies that statement.

I like Interstellar quite a lot but would never refer to it as "life-changing." I feel like you're creating a false position here and then using it to jumpstart an argument where one does not exist. If you don't like the movie, that's cool, I don't get why you wouldn't but everyone has their own opinion and you are certainly entitled to yours.

Are you a fan of science fiction generally? If so, what are some science fiction movies that you do like?

I cared at first when he left his kids and thought that was a great idea and was all into it. But then it goes on and on. Water planet, Matt Damon shows up. It’s just gets lost in the sauce and drags and by the time his daughter is an adult and trying to find him it just fizzled out for me personally

You are so obviously butt hurt. I’m having a good back and fourth with posters on here that disagree with everything I said and it’s a good discourse. You are the only one on here taking it personally. Have a coke and a smile.

Yeah it’s a well made movie with a mediocre story. I’d be an idiot to say Chris Nolan can’t make a damn good looking movie but sometimes misses on the story. Are you saying Tenet (way worse movie) isn’t a well made movie, that has a shite story? They are not mutually exclusive. For example One Battle After Another is a well made movie from a technical and directing standpoint and the acting is good, but the script is a mess and overall, despite the talent, I did not like the movie. This isn’t exactly a novel concept.

To me, the winning formula is:
- Is it well made (Nolan's movies always qualify)
- Is it entertaining enough
- Is there novelty to it?
So it soars through my requirements.

Also, does it occur over multiple settings, locations, etc.? Seems to be one for me.

What exactly in the story did you want to happen that you didn't get?

There were memorable lines, humor, big twists, big turns, emotional stakes, payoff, good pacing. What was bad about it?

If you told me you didn’t like pickles, and my response is “what exactly don’t you like? They are salty, have a strong taste of vinegar. Got a good crunch, goes perfect on a club sandwich.” Your response would probably be “yeah…and I don’t like it.” There’s nothing I could sell you on that I personally like about pickles if you don’t like it. At a certain point I gotta accept reality that different people have different tastes.

But to answer your question I thought the movie peaked when McConaughey realized his children were now fully grown adults. Once you get passed that and the Matt Damon character is introduced it just kinda drags for me and I stopped caring. One Battle After Anither had that effect recently where at a certain point I just stopped caring and was checking to see how much longer until the end credits. It’s just how it is. I’m sorry we don’t have the same taste I do t know what to tell you. But the not understanding that kinda proves my point about the rabid fandom of this movie. It’s the concept of not liking something is foreign.

We can agree to disagree on liking the movie, I'm just saying if you're going to making sweeping statements like that it's one of the most overrated movies and not even in Nolan's top 10, you've gotta have some serious things you didn't like about it.

It seems like what you don't like about it is that other people really like it, not anything particularly bad about the film.
