The first season was OK. The second season doubled down on the mean spirited nihilism though.

The whole subplot with Deep was pretty bad and mostly boring.

Damn, I loved every single scene Deep was in. Dude was hilarious

But yeah, this is one of the better shows going right now

Season 1 was great. I’m at about episode 3 in season 2.

Did Homelander actually rape Becca, or did she have an affair? I was confused by that at the end of S1, and then it wasn't until about halfway through S2 that she tells him "You raped me..." But the security footage tape of her going into the hotel room

Seriously and honestly, these days, it depends on what she says at any point in time.

She could come back 20 years later and claim, for the first time, rape and it’s all good.

The Deep standing on the whale so confident only to see a speedboat plowed through its stomach was the best thing in 2020

That was a WTF moment for sure. This show is so overly and unbelievably gory and graphic, and a lot of times it catches you off guard when it happens out of nowhere.

ETA: And that's something I forgot to add to the OP...the graphics and SFX on this show are truly incredible. Most of it doesn't even look like CGI.

The funniest scene so far for me has been...

The dolphin flying through the windshield and getting run over by the truck. Just great and random.

Yeah that was another wtf moment for sure.

Let me know your thoughts as you progress. We can discuss since you and I are watching now and I assume most in the thread watched it when it came out.

So one of the biggest questions around this show is “why are these people so extreme” in their behavior. It’s like every fringe fetish amplified.

Homelander is interesting and pure scum. If you work in corporate America you can draw pretty much identify the personality types based off these characters. Even the bit part marketing guys are cliche but authentic.

I’ve been trying to draw parallels to who these are inspired by. Some are obvious. Some not so much.

Popclaw ...could you think of a more worthless superpower than having a single claw come out your hand? That’s depressing.

Even though this is fantasy, when Homelander is saving the plane...he is faced with an actual question of physics “How” it wasn’t possible. Absurd things like this with a touch of reality I appreciate.

I think it's a representation of how powerful they are. Normal stuff lost its luster so they have to up the ante with more drugs, sex stuff and general lude acts to get any enjoyment. Much like Charlie Sheen.

The guy does Homelander so well it's weird seeing him in interviews and behind the scenes stuff acting as a normal person and not a 100% believable psychopath.

Yeah he’s amazing honestly. And he looks literally exactly like Bradley Cooper from Wedding Crashers. No other Bradley Cooper really, just that one specifically.

And I thought the plane thing was a nice touch. It made me wonder if he could actually have landed the plane himself or if he was being serious about the hull not withstanding him grabbing it. It could be he just didn’t give a frick and was lying and didn’t want to save anybody. Or it also could’ve been that he couldn’t do it, like he said, and at that point he was like frick it, I don’t care about saving anybody.

He’s a great character and how I feel it would IRL because everyone would kiss his arse because they’d have to. I kept waiting for him to go ballistic and just start killing everyone, and in that one scene I was like oh shite there it is. But then it turned out to not be real.

SPOILER BELOW

I'm not a superhero program type guy but this series surprised me. Maybe it's the depravity or lewdness I wasn't expecting? Dunno, but it kept me watching. And honestly, it had some very funny scenes to me.

In S2, one moment made me howl with laughter. Every episode I briefly thought to myself "who writes this stuff?"

Then... at Vought, the guys break in and witness all of the super villains that were being imprisoned. SHTF... they lock themselves in a room and a strange tentacle shoots through a door window and starts to strangle Mother's Milk around the neck.

They beat the tentacle off and it retracts back into the shorts of the villain.

MM watches and says "Wait! That was his dick?!"
