I forgot his name, but the big fat cop who was always eating was a funny guy. I liked him.

If you notice he went from the worst cop on the force to the best by the end of the show

I would even call it a dramedy (or at least it is close enough to argue) - most characters had multiple comic moments and more than a few were heavily comedic (Bunk, Clay Davis, Landsman, Slim Charles, etc.). The gangsters trying to use Robert's Rules, the gallows humor among the cops and gangsters - while it was fairly dark at times, the show would not have had the impact as a straight, serious drama. It is also more realistic as people use humor as a coping mechanism in situations exactly as depicted in the show.

it's not a dramedy, its real life. in everyday life there will always be laughs or a comedic situation here and there, no matter how tough things are. make no mistake, the wire is one of the darkest and realest drama's ever.

sopranos and breaking bad fall much more along the lines of dark humor/dramedy.

Forgot about another favorite of mine. My man Slim Charles.

This.

I have enjoyed and rewatched other series more than the wire, but I put this series up in my top 3 because the staying power in my head is unbelievable. Really a great series that made you think.
Oh, and Stringer Bell was my favorite

It does have "head staying power". Good point.

And Clay Davis is my favorite.

My least favorite were Deangelo and the dipshit kid in season 2 who did nothing but pull out his schlong every episode.

"How my hair look, Mike"

How can you beef on that line? So perfect.

That lawyer Levy was the worst character imo

Burrell by far. Rawls had his moments, like when Kima got shot. He was a dick, but Burrell was a purely corrupt, political animal

Also, one of the most underrated lines in the whole series is in S02E10:

Frank: You don't know? You're supposed to! You're his fricking cousin!
Niko: You're his father.

I'm starting season 3 as we speak. The acting is incredible for the most part.

Just finished the last episode. Enjoyed it, but in an unpopular opinion thought season 2 was just awful.

It's hard binge watching 5 seasons of telivision in a couple of weeks and getting the same context as someone watching it weekly, but I just wasn't drawn to it as I was say after binge watching two seasons of Lost, two seasons of The Newsroom and one season of GOT.

It was a roller coaster series for me for sure and I like the character development on the force, on the streets, in politics, etc. and the courage to not put any single character above the story of the show.

Good show; not the best ever IMO, but very very good.

A lot of what he did on the show was supposedly true, including the jumping off the balcony thing.

"That's some Spiderman shite."

Apparently the real jump was from higher up, and they lowered it so it wouldn't be so unbelieveable.

Finished it last week. Binge watched for the most part but i found season 5 a chore to get through. Loved the series overall. Slim Charles, Stringer, and Wee Bay were my favorite G's. Bunk and Freeman were my favorite cops. Loved the scenes with Bunk out on the boat and the dock workers girlfriend had one of the best natural racks ever.

Mrs. Midnight has watched maybe 90 minutes, spread out over all 5 seasons, and even she will occasionally say, Slim Charles-style, "On a Sunday morning?"
