Was this the first movie where having the dad be a clueless idiot appeared?
Also, at the end, the daughter runs a stop sign with a cop chasing her, and when she pulls into the driveway, cop is nowhere to be found.

She did end up stopping beforehand and got a ticket.

Ferris was also a high functioning sociopath. A liar, a cheater, manipulative and a user of those around him. Friends and family had no more value than what they could do for him.
Ferris is entitled and everything he does is at the expense of others. Only his sister knew what a shitty person he was.
If you paid attention to the movie, you would know that everything Ferris did in that movie was actually for Cameron. He knew that Cameron wasn’t really sick. He knew about Cameron’s awful home life and what it was doing to him. He knew that Cam was trending towards suicidal. Bueller was trying to show Cameron how to let loose and how to stand up to his parents so he wouldn’t be walked on by everyone his whole life. The antics were all to show Cameron that he could live without being in constant fear all the time. By the end of the movie, Cameron stands up for himself and decides to take accountability for his actions and be his own man. Cameron stops seeing himself as a victim and realizes that his father treats him like a child because he acts like one. He learned how to be his own man that day from Ferris. Ferris Bueller was a good friend, and that day was about Cameron, not himself.

There is the popular fan theory that Ferris is Cameron's alter ego - a fictional character by whom he escapes his nightmare of a life - take Dad's car, talk to a girl like Sloan, just enjoy life.
That's why all those crazy things happen with seemingly no consequences, why Cameron chooses to "take the heat", and why Ferris' father seemingly doesn't recognize Ferris' girlfriend.
Ferris is also the only character to break the 4th wall in the film. It is his day off, of course, and I'm not saying I'm 100% on board with the "Ferris is a figment of Cameron's imagination", but it definitely holds water.

Interesting theory.

Uh as a fellow 50 yr old I'd be all over her. Sans the arm hair. But that's what a microshaver is for!
That's the Mediterranean in her.
And, yes, for her early 50s she looks damned good.

Damn. Not sure how I’ve never heard that.
I actually like it a lot.
My only problem would be the Rooney and Jeanie subplots don’t make a lot of sense in that context.
Still cool to hear a new take on a 30+ year old classic

Then what is the sister?

Not Another Teen Movie did a mash-up of Ferris and Risky Business parodying the clueless idiot parents.
Risky came out in 1983; Ferris in 1986.
This was the 80's theme in teenage comedies. Parents don't exist and if they do, they're clueless idiots who are always absent or going on vacation.
John Hughes staple. Take for instance Breakfast Club; the kids talk incessantly about their parents and how horrible they are...it dominates every conversation in detention - and what do we see of the parents in question who have been shite on for two hours? A few lines for drop-off - you don't even see Ally Sheedy's parents, it's just a car.
But parents not existing or being clueless in 80's teen movies is about as common as the victim in an 80's horror movie walking out into the woods at night with a candle and nightgown asking "is somebody out there?"

I agree and that is why I'm not 100% on board with the entire theory.
But, in the context of Ferris-Cam-Sloan, it makes complete sense.
