Vertigo is the greatest movie ever made by any director.
Vertigo was ranked #2 at a film site I love to frequent called theyshootpictures.com LINK
They basically looked at 2000 different lists to come up with the top 1000 films ever made. Great site.

What's funny about this thread is that "Psycho", arguably the most important and influential horror film ever made, has hardly been mentioned on here. That's a real tribute to the genius of Hitchcock.

Good point. Even I forgot it, and I always throw it up there with Metropolis and a few others as the truly innovative and influential films.

Vertigo. I absolutely loved this movie and it is one that deserves multiple viewings to appreciate everything that it actually has to offer.

Strangers on a Train

Although I agree it's influence on horror is unmatched and cannot be ignored, it's certainly not his best movie. I think if I was 21 in 1960 when it came out I could truly appreciate it personally.
Hitchcock's best films, such as Vertigo and Marnie, are the ones that were completely misunderstood when they came out. Critics were underwhelmed by Vertigo when it first came out and Marnie was a complete departure from Hitchcock's norm

Seems like a lot of these movies from the 40's, 50's, and 60's, were poorly received at first but then became legendary films years later.

Vertigo is my all time favorite movie.
My next favorite Hitchcock movie is Strangers on a Train.
Really, he did not make 1 bad movie, and that is amazing.

Worst one I've seen, in fact I turned it off after about 20mins.
It's easier at this point to edit the list to Hitchock I haven't seen.

It's such a shame, too, because the book is so good. Really suspenseful and frightening. Same author that wrote Rebecca and The Birds, Daphne Du Maurier.
