I never get tired of Strangers on a Train. Several memorable scenes, a lot of nifty camera work, and the ferris wheel scene makes for one of the best endings I've seen. It's definitely my favorite of his.

good lord that's a hard question.

Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Rear Window are some of my favorite movies of all time.

The Birds is Hitchcock's best work. Vertigo is an astoundlingly overrated embarrassment.

WTF?

quote:

It is the first film to utilize the dolly zoom, an in-camera effect that distorts perspective to create disorientation, to convey Scottie's acrophobia. As a result of its use in this film, the effect is often referred to as "the Vertigo effect".

Vertigo received mixed reviews upon initial release, but is now often cited as a classic Hitchcock film and one of the defining works of his career. Attracting significant scholarly criticism, it replaced Citizen Kane (1941) as the best film ever made in the 2012 British Film Institute's Sight & Sound critics' poll. In 1996, the film underwent a major restoration to create a new 70mm print and DTS soundtrack. It has appeared repeatedly in polls of the best films by the American Film Institute, including a 2007 ranking as the ninth-greatest American movie of all time.

38 Steps is great. As is The Lady Vanishes. I love all Hitchcock, but there's something about those early films that grab me.

Shadow of Doubt is Hithcock's personal favorite of his own movies, and this is also mine of his post British ones.

What was the deal with Cary Grant? How did anyone have that much charisma? The guy just oozed manly cool. No one today comes close. Guy must have been an alien.

Rebecca was a story I had no idea where it was going until the last 15 minutes. Easily one of the tops for me with North by Northwest.

The biggest issue I had with Vertigo is how bluntly the story revealed it was the same woman early on in the movie when it should have been when she put the necklace on and be shocked along with James Stewart.

My only guess why they did the reveal early is to garner sympathy for the woman.

Not needed. I just re-watched it for about the fifth time ever. From a technical stand point, it's maybe Hitchcock's best film. The ending is one of his best.

The only reason I didn't rank it higher in my list, is I prefer the Cary Grant or Grace Kelly flicks.

That's my opinion. You're entitled to yours.

Saboteur. The bad guy, Norman Lloyd, is still a working actor at age 101.
