but seriously think of all the great characters grouped in the F4 deal that are just going to be useless commercially (of course in the comics, the characters are just going to be shuffled around):
Silver Surfer
Galactus
Super Skrull
Annihilus
The Watcher
and Dr. fricking Doom-Marvel's greatest villain.

Yeah but Doom kicks some serious Warcraft arse.

Doom is the one villain who carry his own movie and the one who needs his own movie....but Fox continues to fold his origin into the F4's.

Agree. While you need small bits of F4 here and there in his origins, the story of his upbringing and his forging his armor and learning to fight would be awesome.
Marvel really needs all of their characters back. Imagine this:

I just wish disney would buy back x-men... Sony needs the money

Cyclops's sidekick? no way....besides Magneto really is only concerned with mutant bullshite. Doom's hubris is what makes him great.

Let's slow down here. Magneto is a great villain. If Doom is 1, Magneto is a super close 2 if not 1a and 1b

What the frick is the point of using an existing IP to make a movie if you are going to deviate so much from the source material? This shite reads like somebody on a bus overheard a description of Ultimate F4 and went home to write their own fan fiction version.

The mouse should crack open its wallet and buy back the Marvel properties, paying a good price up front, and then giving Sony and Fox residuals for 20 years.

It's a rights grab. Fox will lose the IP and the F4 IP will revert back to Marvel Studios if they don't release a movie by next year, like Daredevil did(formerly owned by Fox)-which Fox requested an extension on I recall correctly. In exchange, Marvel wanted the IP rights of Silver Surfer and Galactus(which makes sense given the studios cosmic focus). Fox declined that deal and sour grapes on both sides ensued.
Punisher and Ghost Rider were basically given up on by the studios-and to be fair they had their chance. Putting this movie with the core characters names, powers and titling it The Fantastic Four keeps it away Disney.
The Fox heads don't like the Disney guys and vice versa. Fox is pretty upset losing Star Wars and it's distribution rights to every film but Episode IV...which to be fair has to sting Fox. The only difference is that Lucasfilm wasn't going under when they sold the rights to Disney and ol' George was the one who sold the damn thing. It's not like Stan and Jack themselves were getting fleeced in the deal.
The F4 and X-Men deals include animation but not merch rights-hence why you don't see toys for the X-Men movie franchise but you see Baby Groot on all the shelves. Sony and Disney have a much better relationship and the Spider-Man deal is much more favorable for Marvel.
There has been thoughts that maybe if Marvel gave up merch rights on X-Men (or shared it at least) to help promote the X-films better that it could be a useful bargaining chip going forward.
I kind of don't have a problem with Fox keeping the X-Men, despite them really fricking up that franchise. [not get sidetracked but DFOP was a fine structured film but it's not a great X-Men film and this next one(AoA) has quiet possibly the lowest stakes ever since anything other than a solid outcome for the team will undermine the ending of DFOP]...but I digress. Fox has proved it is capable of at least putting wildly successful X-films and Hugh Jackman has been a very good Wolverine, if not necessarily a perfect one.
So to summarize, this F4 IP/Fox-Disney war is pretty interesting and Trank looks like he is being used by both sides (hired to do Star Wars spinoff at the same time as planned sequel to F4). Fox isn't promoting this film well at all and doesn't seem to really give a frick about making a great F4 movie...and that pisses Marvel off.

Trank did so much damage to the house that Jim Gianopulos came to Baton Rouge and personally apologized to the owners. Trust me, Trank's career is done. There will be no major study sequels or spin offs for him. He'll be lucky to get the sequel to a Stabbing at Leia's 21st Birthday.

Can you give us more details? I'm just finding it a little hard to believe someone like Josh Trank would act this way considering all the interviews I've seen him in. Do you have any proof of what happened like a video, photo, anybody else who can confirm this or more details you can tell us?

I get that they need to make a movie to keep the rights but even the shitty Roger Corman movie that wasn't released held to the source material better than this.
Posted on 11/30/14 at 5:53 pm to Dr RC
True. The Corman film was much easier to keep in the can though. Also, of course this about keeping a potential tentpole franchise away from a studio and it's parent company that Fox fights for dollars every summer.
Fox wouldn't want any of there big films going against the MCU. Especially a property that Marvel would put a lot of effort to show that only they can pull it off.
