Just saw it. I thought it was pretty good.

I think it was telling she answered,"you're not telling me the truth" (not exact quote) EXCEPT the question to where Caleb was asked if he was good or not. I think she saw enough doubt to include him in the "evil" grouping with Nathan.

What seemed like basic advancements to humans (newer and newer versions of AI), Ava saw as killing/threat to her existence. She had adopted the fight instinct to survive.

Just left.

Best SciFi movie I've seen in years. Just excellent top to bottom.

Sequel?

I think Caleb escapes that room and figures out a way to make outside contact

She isn't evil, she's just programmed to survive and she doesn't have the ability to feel bad about playing Caleb.

Pretty sure she can figure out a way to charge herself. She conducts electricity out and in through her body.

Really want a sequel. The character depth and development was great in this.

do you think Ava is truly evil

No. She just clearly lacks humanity. The way she killed Nathan without displaying any emotion was eerie. It didn't seem it was to exact revenge or anything. Same with how she left Caleb while he banged on the door. She didn't even look at him. She just really lacked anything that makes people human.

I thought this movie was a great look at humanity/morality and all three people gave great performances. It certainly makes you think.

Also, I really hope they don't do a sequel. It was great how it ended.

At the end of the movie, do you think Eve is truly evil, and is on a personal mission to kill all humans OR do you view her sympathetically, and that she murders Caleb because he was every bit as awful as Nathan, treating her like a science project not a person?

She's not killing anyone. She didn't kill Caleb. She just wanted out.

He deserves a chance to study the pleasure sensors between the AI's legs.

What I didn't understand is how was the Asian robot killed/knocked out with just a shot to the jaw? Seems like no critical systems would be in this area of the face.

As a sex bot the jaw was a critical system.

Watched it Friday. Loved it, but I'm going to continue and let it sink in and watch again next week and I'll share my thoughts then.

However, I wanted to take a moment and give a round of applause for that fantastic dance scene. Oscar Isaac

the line where Caleb confronts Nathan about "tearing up the picture" and Nathan responds with "watch me tear up this dance floor"...

I thought it was an OK movie. It could have been great, but the movie was too indulgent for it's own good.

I can appreciate a slow burn, but this film had a lot of fat. Useless shots that lingered. Way way too many shots of hands lol. Could have focused the movie a lot more.

I also think the script could have been improved upon. Gleeson's character arc was out of nowhere. I get he was supposed to be a bit of a loser, but it's a big stretch in being a horny loser and setting about on a plan that would piss off the richest man in the world.

There's more but that's all I can think of right now.

I never agreed with your review, but you lost all credibility with that

That's exactly why he was chosen. He was chosen because he was a single loser. His porn choices and serach engine choices gave Nathan an easy target. He was a perfect prey to be exploited if Ava so possessed the skill to do so. It may seem like a stretch, but there are plenty of nerds out there who would do ANYTHING if it meant having love from a hot chic/robot

ETA: I loved it. Fantastic movie that really draws you in.

I got that the movie wanted me to believe that. I just didn't. It was too big of a stretch for me to believe based off the evidence we were shown. We were shown that Gleeson was awkward sure, but not especially so considering his surrounding. And we are shown that Gleeson's character was reasonably intelligent and had a grasp on reality for most of the movie. In only a couple of scenes, we see him decide to ruin his life to run off with Ava. This is a case where good acting can't escape poor character development.

I thought the movie was great. I don't see Ava as evil, she just used Caleb to get what she wanted/needed.

Or he had something called a moral compass. Be honest, if you went into Bill Gates home and found out he was brutally murdering numerous sex slaves, I think if you were a good person you'd try to do something about it. That was the point of the test. Get a good person in there who understood what he was seeing and then to find out if he would want to rescue something he perceived as human. After seeing those horror videos, I'd probably attempt to do the same thing.

And saw it last night. Absolutely loved it. Some really unexpected turns in the movie, and the tension was intense. I also have to say that Nathan is one of my favorite characters I have seen in film in quite sometime. Just such a great performance by Oscar Issac who was able to come across as likable, completely delusional, and even more despicable all at once.

Ava was able to convince Caleb of her humanity. That was the point of him being there in the first place. Hell, he was told as much when he got there that he was there to see if she possessed intelligence and was really unrecognizable from a human. If Ava was truly able to convince Caleb of her humanity, he would try to save her. I don't see how this came out from nowhere.

On a side note, I prefer watching movies alone. Movies aren't exactly the best place to talk and socialize. I just see it as a solitary experience.
