Every year, I rewatch It's a Wonderful Life

And I never get tired of it. This movie is perfect. You can't help but feel something watching this film.
As men, we can all relate to George Bailey in one way or another. A few times in my life, I've been at the end of my rope, feeling I was worth more dead than alive, and wanting to end it all. Christmas is a time of year that is especially emotional for me.
This movie reminds us that life is beautiful and that no man is a failure who has friends.
Literally everyone should see this movie, if for no other reason than to remind themselves that they do matter.
Merry Christmas TD Movie Board.

It’s about time for my annual rewatch as well.

I watch it once a year usually during the holidays and always latch on to something new. Some of my favorite quotes that always make laugh
quote:
Yes, sir, trapped into this small town and frittering his life away, playing nursemaid to a lot of garlic eaters.
quote:
Ninety per cent owned by suckers who used to pay rent to you. Your Potter's Field, my dear Mr. Employer, is becoming just that. And are the local yokels making with those David and Goliath wisecracks!
quote:
Say brainless, don't you know where coconuts come from?

I haven’t been able to make it through the entire movie in several years. I just get too emotional knowing how it turns out and how desperate George gets. I turned it on earlier tonight and couldn’t make it past the soda shop scene. Even with the coconuts line, I had to bail on Bailey.

Watching right now.
Should be required for everyone to watch once per year.
Really, Capra said it is not a Christmas movie.
Just noticed something I had not seen before. George, acting as an air raid foreman, spits on himself after busting someone with his lights on. Ha!

Is there a better movie wife than Mary Bailey? The answer is no.

It's been a Christmas Eve tradition literally my entire life and "to my big brother George, the richest man in town" is automatic blubbering

Someone pointed out to me that if you only watched it from the point he’s “brought back”, you have a comical case of a man publicly losing his marbles.

I love that movie, watched it for many years with my daughters, it gives me a lump in the throat too. They are now at ages, 16 and 20, where they are too cool to watch it with me and they just roll their eyes and want something else. May be some day before too long they will watch it with their old dad again.

It’s probably my favorite movie. When they read out the telegram from Sam Wainright, I start balling because that’s when you know George is in the clear. Then when Harry shows up to give the toast, I’m a puddle. Just a great movie all around.
My wife and I watch it every year the night before family shows up. We struggled through it for a few years when we had trouble conceiving. This year I watched it with my 7 month old on my lap and it was one of the greatest nights of my life.

Audiences didn't understand it at the time.
It's a deeper movie...about a man wanting to travel the world. And experience new things but he can't, he has responsibilities.
But gets sucked back into the wants of those around him, despite what he wants is freedom...
And then he gets saddled with kids and a lousy bank...his youth gone. Audiences were like this isn't a fun watch, this is life. So it tanked.
And then it was labeled as communist propaganda. Because George sacrifices to save the collective on the day of his honeymoon and then the collective saves him at the end.
It just came out at the wrong time...but beloved by generations after.

George Bailey was a sub-prime lender with poor internal controls that required a public bail out to remain in business.

That's a great observation and when I get started. The look on George's face showed relief but also showed that he was completely overwhelmed that people could be this caring. Also Sam Wainwright was portrayed as kind of an arse all movie, then at the end he just sends George whatever he needs without a second thought is what hits me
