I feel like re releases shouldn’t count towards the record. And honestly should cut off after being in the theaters for a certain time

Didn’t Titanic stay in theaters for like 2 years?

Avatar had a rerelease, so it's fine. I believe EG will pass Avatars initial record.

I won't be seeing any of the Avatar sequels. The original sucked.

I think it would pass that without a re-release. It’s about 7 million away.

Yeah I know, I’m not trying to defend avatars honor here. I think it’s just kind of lame to count it for anyone

and the effects are nothing special today.

bullshite. The 3-D in Avatar is still better than all 3-D released today. Nobody takes the time and or spends the money to put as many 3-D effects as the effects in Avatar.

I remember folks arguing that the 750 million to develop the technique would reap long term cash flow but I'm not sure any movies have used the system since Avatar.

The content of the movie sucked. A hamfisted unbelievable version of Dances with Wolves in space.

On the other hand, I was drooling at the truly amazing 3-D in the movie. If they release Avatar again in the theater in 3-D, I'll catch it again just for the 3-D.

I'm guessing you've literally never seen dances with wolves?

Sort of surprised they did this so soon. I think if they had waited and added a few more scenes it would work.

That being said, looks like it's trending about 40 million short of Avatar. Most good runs of re releases gets like 10 million

Even if it passes Avatar, it would only hold the record until the Avatar sequel is released. I have no doubt Disney will do a re-release for Avatar to get fans excited about the sequels.

Nobody is clamoring for Avatars

It is hard to watch Avatar without 3-D.

I remember I had to get a 3-D TV a few years ago but then never really used it. I did watch a few nature films, and do have Avatar in 3-D, but never watched it beyond the one time I ordered it.

I guess I need to dust off the glasses - see if the batteries are still good - and give it a try again.
