What’s puzzling is even Nolan die hards, who could simply say they liked the action and beautiful cinematography won’t acknowledge how lazily it’s put together regardless of whether you agree about sticking to the material or not. The situation in Ithaca makes no sense, most of the stops on the actual voyage make no sense, Damon’s character makes no sense, the situation with Calypso makes no sense, Zeus’ law makes no sense. Very simple storylines are completely illogical and not believable. For example how old is Telemachus? He’s just wondering why the suitors are there now? That’s retarded.

You can’t have an opinion unless you’ve seen the movie! Never mind the absurd plot twists that, as you point out accurately, make no sense. Same with the Viking ships or the ridiculous plate armor, etc. But then once in a while, there will be some accurate military gear so the Nolan bros can high-five each other and say “See! Totally accurate, dude!”

But you could is the point.
But there is zero way to verify that they actually are reviews of a movie they’ve seen. This movie is certainly polarizing, but it’s my personal opinion that there are more people upset with the casting choices and to take action than the full on over the top supporters. I think the majority though are people that just want to see a movie and are probably less likely to run the their keyboards to write a review, probably less initiative to waste their time.

I disagree on the RT. To me, it simply means 90-whatever percent were satisfied with the movie and don’t regret they’ve spent money to see it. That can range even from a 4/10 score to a 10/10 in my eyes. 3/10 is probably too low for a thumbs up, but I can see cases where someone rates it a 4/10 and still is satisfied enough.

You certainly can’t leave a valid review of a movie you’ve never seen.

Same goes for a car review you’ve never rode in or driven, a book review of something you haven’t even looked at the cliffs notes, etc. It’s not that complicated. If you provide a review, you’re either making stuff up or regurgitating someone else’s thoughts. That is the opposite of what an honest review was intended to be.

I’ll take a look, but l’ll admit I will go in skeptical.

Google AI immediately stated this:
quote:

A Rotten Tomatoes score is not a grade out of 100. It is the percentage of critics who gave a movie a passing grade (usually 6/10 or higher). A 90% score means 9 out of 10 critics thought the movie was okay or better, not that it is a 9/10 masterpiece.

Well I did see it and I can take you through scene by seen to show that at least 75% of the movie is ridiculous from a story mechanics perspective. With where you’re coming from yes there’s enough information out there now to tell you plenty about the movie. He failed at what he wanted to do which was to alter the story for whatever his purpose was while keeping some of it intact. It resulted in way too much narrative conflicts and incoherent situations within the story.

Of a nearly 3000 yr old Greek story that's the basis of Western literature?

I'm not providing a review, and your reasoning for me having an opinion on Nolan's movie is invalid when there's so much out there describing how it veers from the source material.

Even Emily Wilson's translation!! Which is all of what, 9 years old?

You're so completely out of your league on this it's sad.

What did you type? I typed “what would a 97% score on rotten tomatoes translate to meteoritic” and got

A 97% Rotten Tomatoes score typically translates to a Metacritic score of 85 to 95 (Metacritic's "Universal Acclaim" tier), though it can occasionally land in the high 70s

That does not equate to reviewing a movie of an adaptation of the source material.

I also didn’t say jack about your opinion. We’ve been discussing the veracity of reviews and review sites for quite a few pages now.

You keep saying this to people, but you fail to understand that you’re considered one of dumbest posters on this board by a majority of the regular posters. You were literally voted worst poster on the board last year. And if you think you’re out witting me, all I can is laugh at your naivety.

I’ll dig deeper, perhaps they’ll convince me that they can turn binary on off switch data into an accurate 1-10 rating scale.

I started with a basic translate RT ratings. I’ll refine as I move along.

You might be getting too deep in the woods in this. RT is an algorithm, MC is an average aggregator. They don’t cross pollinate for lack of a better term. All you’re doing here is taking the 97% RT movies and comparing their average to MC.

I might do it anyway.

I actually know binary (yes, I’m C-3PO, haha), just for subnetting, but I’m pretty astute at math and curiosity might get to me on this one.

I actually had most of their gaming systems, 2600, 5200, I think there was even a 7800 at one point. Pitfall - and Frogger, Missile Command - were definitely in play.

But my real passion back in the day was the 8-bit computer lines. I taught myself Basic, some Assembly language, ran a BBS and did some of the things displayed in the movie Wargames I mentioned earlier. When I got my 10MB hard drive, I was the shite.
