They’re already retconning lore and screwing up major world aspects such as Salusas Secundus, making it into this extravagant world with beautiful landscape and an LA nightlife scene. In the books it’s the most harsh planet to live on with constant extreme weather, temperature changes, violent creatures and near impossible landscapes to inhabit. The Sardaukar and Fremen are the hardest, most fierce warriors in the imperium because they survived on this planet but in this show it’s made to look like Kaitain. The emperor is an idiot and a weakling which would be impossible at that time as his family is from there and not only survived but conquered this planet. I won’t even get into the rest of the ham fisted and dumb shite like the “sisterhood” and dialogue which is retarded. Fimmel was great and at least made it interesting but man I hope it turns around fast.

Was curious about this myself. I’m only lightly into Dune lore. Was it always an inhospitable prison planet or did it develop into one? I assumed that since the show is 10,000 years before the events of Dune that the planet had not yet undergone some change into its “current” form. Did the Sardukar even exist at this time?

I liked the nightclub scene. Nice seeing there was a real world out there with real people, something the books rarely show

It wasn’t always their prison planet but the conditions were always brutal. The images I’ve seen of the palace look something like a cross between Arakeen and Herrenhal from GOT. Very grim, dark and practical with no glamor to it at all.

Yeah, they have 10,000 years to make it a prison planet. Hell, don't even need the whole planet, just a decent sized continent.

Kaitan v. Salusa Secundus? Minor nit picking. Doesn't affect the story itself.

Well the emperors people come from SS and it’s central to who they are. Only after centuries of rule do they move to a much nicer place and make their home planet a prison planet/Sardukar training planet. It’s a major change to the story and it’s seems to have been done just to make the emperor a pampered weakling instead of the type of ruler he’s supposed to be. What it looks like is instead of making the “sisterhood” cunning and intelligent they’ve instead opted to make everyone else stupid. It’s ham fisted instead of smart which is the appeal to Dune for most people. I’m hoping it gets better, big fan of this universe.

The women came across kind of stupid too though. They’ve been tricked and their plans have fallen apart already. Only the “Fremen” guy seems to be a step ahead of everyone.

Weren't atomics used on SS at some point in the timeline?

That’s what I mean by ham fisted. Even the way people speak to each other and act are wrong here. They behave and talk like it’s 2024 earth and if you do a side by side with the movies you’ll notice the dialogue is completely different. At least Ragnar acts like characters are supposed to in this universe.

I think it was attacked with atomics by another house. Maybe they’re setting that up with the guy who’s using AI illegally.

SS gets destroyed by atomics after the point in the timeline. I take your point that it always had harsh climate, flora, fauna, and the like. However, it did allow us get the nightlife scene, which was nice because we have basically no "normal" life perspective in the books other than the Fremen.

Is he? I didn't get that impression at all. He was balancing his needs on Arrakis versus the ambition of House Richese. I did find it odd that they included the AI lizard. I agree he would've never allowed that to go unpunished.

Well, in essence they are at this point. They're just starting to figure out how to control the Imperium. There is going to be a lot of trial and error as they've only been working at this for two generations.

Well he can’t make a single simple decision without asking Asha the entire time. I get that they rely on BG and Mentats for long game advise sometimes but that would’ve been a conversation prior to the meeting instead of looking like a fool and constantly asking her what to do about every single thing.

Obviously you know the lore so let me ask you about my first theory after ep1. Could Desmond Hart be a Cymeks? I know they’re supposed to be like giant sized humanoids but with what he can do and the “reckoning” could that be what he is?

it's funny that madking shows up in every new show thread and claims it breaks the lore.

Dude hates everything new or popular

he will spend the next 40 pages of this thread trying to convince everyone it sucks regardless of their own opinion.

The emperor is never truly an emperor in the books as he must answer to the Guild and if all the great houses line up against him, problems.

However, unlike the Targaryans, he has his own army in the Sardaukar

I get that. I think the writers are trying to quickly show that the houses are already relying heavily on the sisters. Adapting long novels onto the big screen means the writers have to cut corners a bit to get a message across. I agree that in an actual book-canon meeting he would already have worked out every eventuality beforehand, but it's tough to fit everything into 8 episodes at 60 minutes a piece.

Possibly. The Titans were giants, but there's no reason he couldn't be a Tleilaxu agent. Maybe some sort of proto-gola. I intentionally held off reading Sisterhood of Dune, because I thought I'd enjoy the show more if I didn't know the story. So, others would probably have a better idea than me.
