I remember when this came out and the critic's killed it 24% on RT etc... So I never watch it in the theater. I eventually streamed it on prime and found it not nearly as bad as review and really enjoyable. and even purchased it for the cloud and have watched it several times sense.

I thought that it was really the first true Dracula origin story I had every really seen. With him actually starting out as Vlad III "the Impaler" and somewhat tying in the historical facts on which the legend is based.

Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper and Charles Dance where all well known and gave pretty good performances. I think movie critics had made up there minds before they even saw the movie because, it didn't have Bram Stoker in front of it. Movie is good and I would love to see a sequel and see how the dance between Vlad (Evans), and the Master Vampire (Dance), would have played out.

Anyone else feel this movie wasnt as bad as reviewed?

Yeah I kind of remember watching it once. It wasn't that bad.

I'm guilty of liking the crappy movie Dracula 2000 with Gerard Butler. I was young and it was the first time I had seen an attempt at an origin story for Dracula. Dracula being Judas Iscariot made so much sense to me.

God wouldn't let Judas go that easily and had the rope snap cursing him to live an eternal undead life. Vampires weak to silver because Judas was paid in 30 pieces of silver. Wooden stake to represent the cross. Vampires weakness to Christian iconography. Dracula can only be killed by hanging.

Great ending. Was really hoping for a sequel.

(The ending really sealed it as a good watch.)

It was supposed to be the first movie of Universal's Dark Universe monster series but that didn't really pan out and then The Mummy went tits up.

Yeah, from what I read Dracula(Evans), was supposed to cameo in the Mummy, but the director kinda screwed the pooch and the whole Dark Universe idea. The Mummy Re-Boot was awful.

I thought it was great.

Why did it ever get bad reviews?

Politics?

I have no idea, other than a lot of movie critics are a lot like book critics, in that they think if it's not high art and has deep theme's then it sucks and can never be enjoyed by someone as intelligent as themselves.

would have liked a spoiler warning for that one, but that's one hell of a premise.

Having Mina be the reincarnation of Dracula's dead wife has already been done before, but supposedly the plan was to tell the original story from the novel in modern times, but it didn't pan out. It's a shame, because I think it could've worked and Luke Evans was a great Dracula.

Evans is a really good actor. I'd really liked to have seen this become his signature role! Maybe someone at Universal will wise up and get this going again.

I found an article earlier that said it's been a big hit on Hulu and Netflix.

New Life?

My beef with The Mummy is that it was too much Tom Cruise and not enough mummy. I think her time on screen added up to a total of about 15 minutes.

Dracula Untold was okay. I just wanted sh we could get an actual Vlad Tepes movie that has no vampire aspect to it.

The origin story reveal for Dracula 2000 gave me chills the first time I saw it, I was like "holy shite so that's what Dracula has been this whole time". And for all the stylization and corniness of the movie Gerard Butler was a great Dracula
