Double Feature: First time watch for Videodrome and Cemetary Man

Oh boy…I have had my fill of weird movies about men going crazy in rampages.
Both have a lot to like but not sure I will watch either one again. Maybe these require additional viewings. Both are characterized by great acting from the main character with fricking weirdness around them.
I’ve heard about Videodrome for a long time and I thought I had a good idea of what to expect. I found myself really surprised about how much to do with the setup interested me. I loved all the stuff about the seedy tv station and their investigation into the weird video feeds. I wanted way more of that. I loved James Caan in this. I loved his morally conflicted but someone grounded take on things.
I just don’t like where it went. Another government conspiracy movie. Feels like I’ve seen this Cornenberg movie before and better. I would have loved a deeper view into either the effects of media on people or something a bit more tangible and stead of hallucinations.
Cemetary Man is Italian as frick. I loved the visuals. I loved the sense of fun. There’s some great comedy booms. But WTF are some of these characters. WTF are some of these scenarios. Some of it is pretty off putting. Leaving me with the strongest WTF I’ve had from a movie for awhile.
Both are worth watching at least once and have artistic merry. Love the design of Cemetary Man. But I absolutely need to like go watch some Disney movies or something because I can’t take any more illusional bullshite

Both great movies. I've had Videodrome on dvd for 20 years now. It's the kind of weird I'm into
I went through a phase of watching a lot of Italian horror a few years ago and Cemetary Man is probably one of the most accessible for the normal American audience. Great costumes and make up in both of these.

excellent choices, I especially loved Dellamorte, Dellamore. Since you're delving into the delightfully strange italian horror. Perhaps a dip into The Church and Demons as well?
or if you like giallo, The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh and The House with the Laughing Windows?

If Cemetery Man is more accessible, not sure if I want to see those other movies lol. The oaf and his creepy relationship with the teenager was extremely off putting

It really is actually. But I still think you would like the giallo films. They are strange, sure, but they are fun whodunnits. Think Scream as far as formula with lots of nudity, inventive kills, over the top acting, and italian weirdness.

Probably not a popular opinion. But I saw Demons 2 first and I liked that. So I started watching Demons and it was too much the same movie so I stopped. Maybe going in fresh would be better. I think I liked the movie theater setting of 2

I trust you. I am not against giallo films. But if I’m going to be watching those sorts of movies, probably going to be trashy British exploitation movies like the Hanmer and Amicus and the Witchfinder general movies.
Like I didn’t like Phenomena. I know that’s not a giallo but it’s giallo adjacent.
I did like Zombi 2 and I do need to watch the Gates of Hell trilogy but I have to be in the right mode to be grossed out in regards of other Italian stuff to check out

I will also add, the fake tits in both these movies is extremely offputting.

yeah I don't like the gross out films that much. Check out the ones I recommended. They are quite something. Giallo adjacent isn't giallo my friend. I do wonder what your opinion would be.

Cemetary Man has one of the best set of tits in a non porno. They're amazing.
Giallo films are basically just serial killer/detective movies with a unique style. Something like Deep Red or Tenebrae would be good starts as they aren't too weird.

I think I saw the original suspiria, at least parts.
