Does watching Band of Brothers ruin Saving Private Ryan?

I havent watched all of BOB but I heard its great. And I enjoyed the bit that I've seen. I heard from a few friends years ago that it kind of ruins the experience of Saving Private Ryan because its so good. I didnt pay it any attention, but I went to the IMDB boards....and people are saying the same thing.
Is this true?
Does Band of Brothers have a "The Wire" like effect where it ruins other things that you previously loved?
Note: I'm not saying that it makes Saving Private Ryan any less great....but does it take off the "watchability" factor?

Not to me at least. I love BoB and SPR. BoB has tons more replay value IMO. Granted I saw SPR first then BoB not too long after that.

Band of brothers had me more attached emotionally. I could really feel for all of the characters

Yea, one of the posters says on IMDB that after watching BOB you end up thinking that the characters in SVP are bunch of jerks. (their words not mine)

On a related note: The Pacific felt like a step down. I was expecting another BoB but was disappointed. It was good but that high expectation of BoB overshadowed it. I recommend it if you go in expecting less action.

haven't seen BoB, but it's hard to beat the opening minutes of SPR. Extremely intense and makes me appreciate what those men did even more.

I've never even thought of them together, much less considered comparing them, until this thread. So no, I don't think BOB takes away from SPR at all. They're really two different animals. Personally, as good as BOB is it doesn't pack as much of an emotional punch for me as SPR does.

Not to me in the least. Presentation is so different.

I watched Ryan a couple nights ago. I compared the two for some reason. BoB was so mutch better I must admit, the characters more real, action as a whole more gripping. I know one is a series vs movie but to me, BoB is the standard.

No.

They are different. Band of Brothers is based off of actual events. Saving Private Ryan is a story based "loosely" off real events and in no way do I think those guys were jerks, they really were on a fricked up mission...totally FUBAR and BOHICA.

It was fairly accurate, as that was the story of the actual Easy Company.

No. They were both awesome on their own merit. Both of my grandfathers fought in the Pacific. Marines and Navy. I watch as much of these things as I can and can't ever thank them enough or think of what that was like without shaking my head. Both of them are gone, but I respect those 2 men more than more anyone else in this world.

That's crazy talk.

No, but it is much more rewatchable. I've watched Ryan 2 or 3 times.
I've watched BOB (all ten hours) 4 or 5 times, and some episodes, like the first couple, even more.

I don't think BoB ruined Saving Private Ryan. But I think it did highlight some of the more formulaic aspects of the movie.
The premise of SPR, while I know it was loosely based on a real family, just comes across as kind of forced after the organic way BoB unfolds. (Except maybe for the concentration camp episode which kind of felt inserted into the narrative).
