Been promising my four year old daughter that we'd go see it when it came out. Holding up my end of the bargain, we went yesterday. The movie had the feel of old school Disney movies and had a great story/message. For those with little girls who are fans of the Disney princesses, I would highly recommend that you take your daughter to see this movie.

I'm in the same boat, planning to take my 4 year old next week when she's out of school. Glad to hear it is decent.

Took my nine year old daughter and we both loved it. Disney could've gotten preachy but they handled many of the realities of race in the 1920s very well by making Tiana a strong, self reliant woman rather than a victim.

First cell-drawn movie since Lion King I think. Everything since then has been CGI I believe.

Yes, I think this is the first actual cartoon drawn in the past five years or so.

Why wasn't it CGI? I guess they wanted to save some cash. I bet the made the pic for less than 40 mil. Pretty smart move, I saw they opened up at 25. The black community shows up for movies that relate to them. You gotta say they are the most faithful film fans. Just ask Tyler Perry, dudes a millionaire because of it. For the one or two decent movies he's directed, the guy has taken advantage of that loyal audience by exposing them to 10-12 piece of shite films.

I think it was better not being CGI. It had an old charm about it. And there were as many white people there as black. It's a great Disney movie.

John Lasseter, who was head of Pixar, is now in charge of Disney Animation Studios (which now includes Pixar).

His first love was hand drawn animation, and his very first move was to bring back real animation with this movie 3 years ago.

It's is more expensive and takes far longer than a CGI film, but there was an interview where Lasseter said Disney needs hand drawn stuff more than it thinks. I expect it to be an every other year thing for Disney, and a good move overall.

Way more; and classical animators in the Disney style are few.

Freauxzen, have you seen it yet? If so, I'd like to know what you thought. If not, do you plan on seeing it?

Definitely. I am taking my niece over the break. I am a big fan of classical animation, Disney did some amazing things despite the many shortcuts they took.

They had a certain magic that Pixar currently has, everything they touch is/was well-developed, interesting to every age, and deceptively meaningful.

Just got back and everyone loved it. Wasn't a fan of the 3 guys in the bayou. Everything else was great. Definitely will buy it as soon as it comes out for the girls.

My 2 college age daughters and I went to see it over the weekend and it was great - we all liked it. I kind of wondered how the cajuns felt about the 3 guys in the boat - they seemed a little bit more like rednecks than cajuns. Defnitely take your kids to see it - you'll enjoy it too!
