The revamped Disney Plus app could soon feature always-on channels dedicated to Star Wars and Marvel shows, according to a report from The Information. The channels, which are reportedly similar to those on free ad-supported streaming services like Pluto or Tubi, could take away the choice when it comes to picking out what to watch next.

In addition to Star Wars and Marvel series, Disney’s lineup of channels could feature stations that continuously stream Disney’s classic animated films or movies from Pixar, The Information reports. Even though viewers would need a Disney Plus subscription to tune in to the channels, they will likely still contain ads — just like traditional television.

There still aren’t any details about when the new channels could launch, and Disney declined to comment. However, the rumored move aligns with Disney’s goals of keeping viewers glued to its Disney Plus app, which now includes a tile for Hulu.

It also reflects the growing popularity of free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST). Last week’s report from Bloomberg revealed that viewers are spending more time watching the Fox-owned Tubi when compared to Peacock, Max, and Paramount Plus. Part of the appeal of FAST services is that you can just tune in to a random show without having to worry about hanging onto every single word like you would when watching something like Fallout.

I don't hate it.

Sometimes the amount of decisions required to watch TV is more than I feel like dealing with when I'm just trying to have the TV on while falling asleep.

Lol, you can already steam any and all of the shows they mentioned.

Why watch a star wars channel when I can watch the actual movie/show from the start

For those who don't want to scroll and search for a show but would rather just watch what is currently being broadcasted. We have come full circle with TV.

like Pluto or Tubi

I like to nod off with something decent on, and I've actually started using Pluto more and more for that purpose because it doesn't lose my place in a series by playing an entire season of episodes (like other apps), or screw up my algorithm by jumping around to random YouTube videos.

I could see something like this being useful for background content, which is definitely something missing from the streaming model at the moment.

Seems like providers would discourage all of that unnecessary bandwidth usage, but I guess they're getting revenue off ads even if no one is actually watching them.

I like the added content in Disney Plus but I wosh they had a pure disney option.

I tried doing the kid option for my son but it’s extremely limited. Disney Junior official stuff only. can’t even get like classic mickey cartoons on there. but not the general account has so many non kid options to get through

and just like that, my interest is gone.

I'm not watching ads on a streaming service I'm already paying extra to not watch ads on.

Just give me the option to make my own fricking playlists. Why is this so hard for all the streamers to do?

They make old-timey radio plays for Spotify currently. Some of them aren't too bad.

Its kinda like what paramount+ does with their live channels

They categorize the shows and put them on channels. Im watching frasier on the 90s sitcom channel right now

Only use I could potentially see for this would be to turn on a channel for my kid to watch so I don't have to keep making sure something is going.

Unfortunately, I can't trust Disney to not insert some woke garbage into such a channel so I'll have to keep picking the shows myself.

a real money making deal would be doing video playlists.

“90s morning playlist”

and it’s Rescue Rangers, darkwing duck etc…

They wouldn't be able to help themselves. They'd have to include the modern DuckTales reboot as part of the rotation.

This doesn't mean free of ads right? It's something you can advertise for free on.

If that's the case, the name is misdirection by calling it FAST, even though that acronym is correct.

Disney plus with the ads is unwatchable imo. We are just going to pay the extra. Have not watched a single thing on it since the ads started.

Not possible. A character has two gay dads. Simply inappropriate for children.
