Not sure they had much choice, but I get it. Disney isn't known for picking their battles

The rights to Roger Rabbit have been a clusterfrick IIRC, from the fights over WB and Disney characters getting equal time in the original movie to fights between studios over which movies got the Roger Rabbit shorts to air in front of them.

The chances of getting everyone on the same page to make a sequel, even to something that wildly successful, were low simply because of what a headache the whole thing was to make the first time around.
