Did anybody know they were rebooting The Mummy? (Updated 5/5)

Starring Tom Cruise?
Honestly it has my legit interest because of that. It's also staring Jake Johnson who plays Nick from The New Girl.
The mummy is suppose to be a chick this time around. That doesn't bother for this movie, though. Other people in the movie include Annebelle Wallis from Peaky Blinders:
and the Mummy is going to be played by Sofia Boutella from Kingsman:
It's coming out summer 2017. The director is Alex Kurtzman, a producer and writer from the Star Trek reboot. I have mild interest.

Its supposed to be the start of a Universal monsters shared universe.

Dracula Untold was supposed to be the start of it but that bombed so Universal changed their mind. The Frankenstein movie last year is not part of this universe either. Johnny Depp has signed on for the invisible man reboot, I'm guessing that's next after The Mummy. LINK

They need to make the Anne Rice Mummy.

It sounds like they upped their game on this one. When I first saw that they were rebooting this, I was like "Are you serious?" But the cast and director have me interested. We'll see.

bitch was bad in Kingsman. I am ok with a female Mummy character, especially with this chick.
Tom Cruise really doesn't make bad movies so I have hope for this one if he really is locked in and I like Jake Johnson.

Van Helsing was so badass, def would like to have seen a crossover of that with The Mummy

I hope someone somewhere still feels shame.

God that was the worst CGI of all time.

Seems like there's been a couple Frankenstein movies lately although I never sensed there was much demand.
I'd see a Mummy reboot though. Gods of Egypt was awesome so I'm in the mood.

Yea, this movie just went up a few more notches.
Russell Crowe Is In Talks To Join Tom Cruise In ‘The Mummy’ Reboot
Russell Crowe Is In Talks To Join Tom Cruise In ‘The Mummy’ Reboot
quote:
Academy Award Winner Russell Crowe may be taking the leap from the DC Extended Universe into the Universal Monster Cinematic Universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crowe is in early talks to star alongside Tom Cruise in The Mummy.
It turns out that Crowe could be signing on to play the classic literary characters Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Universal had been in talks with Tom Hardy and Javier Bardem to potentially play the role, but those talks have since fallen apart. It must be noted that these are early talks being had, so it’s possible Crowe does not sign onto the project.
Potentially joining The Mummy as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde would give Crowe the opportunity to be a part of two cinematic universes. Crowe previously played Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El in Man of Steel. With the Universal setting their eyes on Crowe, I believe that it is possible that they may want to have him in for multiple films to epitomize the duality of Jekyll/Hyde.
This marks yet another A-list movie star that Universal has sought after for their Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. With Cruise headlining The Mummy and Johnny Depp slated for The Invisible Man, adding Crowe would only amplify the amount of star-power that this potential franchise can have.
Crowe will next be seen in the upcoming Shane Black buddy cop/comedy The Nice Guys with Ryan Gosling set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures May 20, 2016.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Anabella Wallis, and Jake Johnson, The Mummy will be released June 9, 2017.

I am so in for this movie. If you didn't like the early Mummy movies you suck at enjoying fun.

They're rebooting a movie that was just rebooted back in 1999 and had 2 sequels in the early 2000s and launched a spin off franchise in the Scorpion King?
Come on, Hollywood...
