if you can't separate a TV show from real life, it may be you that has the problem. The show was pretty good, especially Mcgregor

I mean it's historical fiction. You can choose to be outraged about it, but FICTION is right there in the description.
If you can't suspend your disbelief enough to watch a black man in a show like this how can you enjoy anything?
movies like Dune, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, and Godzilla all have way more unbelievable shite going on and I enjoy them as well. You draw the line at riding sandworms as entertaining but a black guy showing up in russia is unbelievable to the point it RUINS the show.
Seems like a miserable way to live. I watch shows if they are good, and don't watch them if they are bad.

These were mostly entertainers in touring troupes who profited from the vogue of black popular culture in Europe during the first three decades of the 20th Century. Among them were the Darktown Entertainers, Black Diamonds, and Sam Wooding and his Chocolate Kiddies. Pearl Hobson was part of this group, arriving in Russia in 1904 and becoming something of a local sensation in Moscow and St. Petersburg by 1909. Hobson lived in Russia until 1916. Other entertainers learned the Russian language and became permanent residents.
Prominent among the non-entertainers who arrived in this period were jockey Jimmy Winkfield who between 1903 and 1914 won several banner races in Russia including Moscow Derby twice, the Russian Derby thrice; and married Russian baroness, Alexandra Yalovicina. Jamaican–born Robert Josias Morgan who had served as deacon in Episcopal Church parishes in five Atlantic coast and Southern states, left for Russia in 1904 where he visited monasteries in key cities, and eventually became the first black Eastern Orthodox priest in 1907. The coming of World War I ultimately forced boxer Jack Johnson to cut short his stay in Moscow in 1914.
I also think it's weird to call out this show for having a leftist agenda because of the way it portrays how awful the communists were. that seems like the opposite of a leftist agenda.
Whatever though, don't watch it if you are gonna be miserable because some side characters are the wrong skin color.

how did you miss the black people in russia from 1890-1917 i posted right below that?
the casting may be DEI, but it wasn't "things that would never have happened is as glaring as having Henry the 8th wearing an Apple watch." as the OP stated. there were definitely black people in the communist movement in russia during the timeframe of the show.
race wasn't discussed in the show. I feel like they covered the material well in 8 episodes without adding any of that. it was a really good show IMO and Mcgregors character and his interactions with other people while dealing with the communist villains were the focus of the story.

it wasn't half the commies in the show either. they were basically all white with 2 exceptions out of the 50+ commie officers shown.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. In this instance, I think it greatly added to his depravity and lack of mental health. It was a not so subtle poke that maybe these folks aren't right in the head and it was mostly do to a gay rapist.
Anyway, frick the casting on this show. Let me know when that chalamet fella plays Malcolm X.
I couldn't get through the entire show, not because of all the queer shite, but because it went dark and the show was largely unfunny.
Anyway, to your point. I found it interesting that he referred to his gay rapist as a "groomer". That wasn't lost on me.

I think that show tanked with abysmal ratings, so maybe most Brits didn't appreciate the race swapping after all.
