Bless Liefeld's heart, but this is like a congressman delivering votes for Trump and then asking him to step down from the presidency after the federal jobs in his home district are terminated.
We love ya Rob, but Image Comics was 30 years ago. Marvel had to be sued into honoring Kirby and Ditko. Don't hold your breath for your Disney Legend award.

He's not wrong.
It seems like that with the takeoff of Iron Man, Fiege was able to convince the new owners (Disney) of the idea to do a big-screen adaptation of Avengers with that being a stepstone to an adaptation of Infinity Gauntlet.
You have to admit, killing half the universe then resolving it is a pretty big deal so it's hard to go bigger than that. That said, it seems like he didn't really have anything left in the tank after WandaVision so they threw shite at the walls to see what would stick.
Maybe he thought he would bow out after Endgame? Maybe he just pulled a George RR Martin and thought he could live off that big cinematic moment without ever having to finish his work?
Who knows. I'm not a big fan of Leifeld, but he's likely not wrong in this. Feigi's arguably had at least a decade to plan the next long story arc, instead we have gotten multiple attempts that just sadly petered out.
Get it? Sadly petered, sad Peters? Get it???
It's okay, I'll see myself out.

This and the rest of the humor that separates Deadpool from the rest of the Marvel Universe and makes him unique and awesome and the star of franchise. Not his suit.
I don't think you understand how this works. Without a Deadpool, there is no Deadpool movie. There are tons of characters that get created and just flame out.

In Liefeld's hands, Deadpool was one of thousands of flat boring arse-hats with a bunch of pockets on his belt that Liefeld generated about every 2.2 seconds. It wasn't until other writers (I believe Nicieza started the "merc with a mouth" trend) that Deadpool took off.

This, coming from someone reading at that time.
Between his intro in New Mutants 99 and Liefield leaving the successor book X-Force at issue 12, his appearances appear to be as follows-
Intro in NM 99
Returns in X-Force 2 (NM ended at 100, X-Force is successor book)
Small appearances in X-Force 4-5 as a delivery service bringing Juggernaut and Black Tom to his employer Mr Tolliver
Makes one more appearance in X-Force 10.
That’s roughly two full issues and a few spot appearances over a little more than a year.
If you read those appearances in total, there ain’t a lot of Deadpool on the page, hence why I saw he didn’t really get fleshed out until his two miniseries and his regular series.
And most of his supporting cast and dynamics didn’t really appear until these series, such as Weasel, Blind Al, etc.
That first mini, The Circle Chase, starts establishing a lot of who he is but his first regular series a few years later cements him into what made him so popular.
