Ep 5 was really good.
Interesting lore, good story, makes for a fun watch.

I watched the first episode, then immediately went back and watched the 1982 film.
Although the new show is extreme well done, it kind of lacks that creepy British vibe that made the first one so special.
Not having much interaction with the Mystics also is a notch against the show.
There's still a sense of wonder and childhood greatness with the show, but I honestly think they should have just made into a 3-hr movie or something because there's lots in the show, that, to me is not that interesting and kind of slow.
The lore of the Skesis and mystics definatly needed to be expounded upon, but there was something almost other-worldly Biblical about the movie that the show has not captured (seen about 6 episodes and even skipped around to one's I thought looked good from the description.)
I'm sure it's childhood talking, and I am more than glad Netflix funded this, but I don't know how the movie gets topped.

Watching episode 6 now. It doesn't have the same mystery as the movie, and I hate the fact that they retconned the mystics and Skeksis.
Also, the grubby hippie witch is actually the ruler of the planet? And she simply gave the Skeksis control of everything, including the crystal, for no apparent reason? She revered the mystics in the movie, but talks down to them on the show, and they're going to have to struggle to make the connection between the Skeksis and mystics because they basically ignored that part.
The production value is great, but the writing is terrible. There is an element of mystery to the movie, and it's strained a bit by trying to expand on and explain it all. Plus, we know that this all has to end with the near total annihilation of the gelflings, so it's eventually going to run itself into a wall.
Hollywood is just grabbing up popular properties and cashing in on remakes and adaptations now. They do what they're good at, which is stage craft, etc., but the story is a formula that is intended to facilitate as many seasons as viewers will justify.

The gelfings were jerks who abused their position and stole from the lowly workers anyway. They're no better than the Skeksis really as they're both abusing the power of the crystal.

aaaaaand now it's Gelfling Game of Thrones.
They even had a Skeksis taking a piss right into the camera. Way to filth it up, Netflix.
Also, mice touch to have the gelfling girl say she has 2 dads.

I thought this was one of the best things I’ve seen in quite some time.
So beautiful visually, amazingly detailed story and terrific character development.
I liked it even better than the movie.
