Definitely doesn't hold up as well as Iwas hoping. Just the way it was shot and the quick cuts were annoying me this go around.

I’ve heard the directors helps with some of this. Never seen it myself - seems like it’s not streaming anywhere

to think this influenced The Matrix or was better than it. I mean maybe it influenced it but, yea, certainly isn’t better than it. Matrix holds up really well.

Yeah, the action and special effects in the Matrix will allow it to hold up better over time compared to Dark City. Dark City has some bad special effects at times, which drags it down a bit. Still a great movie, and you have to think influenced the Matrix a little.

But then the Matrix was basically a mishmash/copy of multiple movies put together. It's a great flick that should stand the rest of time, but the brothers showed with the mediocre and terrible sequels that they were terrible writers who had no real story for the plot.

Not sure if you ever saw me mentioned it on here that mom actually passed away a few years ago

Yeah, I remember. I've seen you mention your nephew, as well. On a positive note, I mention him while teaching Fire/EMS classes at a local high school. I take a slight detour to talk about the risks even in social settings, not just on duty. His name was Boston, right? That's what I remember. Hopefully his story can help other kids.

holy crap this guy is comically bad.

He's so good in some things, but would have ruined this movie even if I didn't have other problems with it.

The problem is that it was waaay ahead of its time. We had no reference to go by, like The Matrix. People weren't sure what to think about it, including myself.. It looked great on screen while creating an alternate reality, though.

I can see Blade if you are talking about the outfits

And the kung fu in those outfits. And soundtrack. And a fair amount of visual design
