High Budget production unlike Merlins TV series. I like that they cast a Black Arthur but...find it funny that Nimue is the true wielder of Excalibur.

Sword in the Stone is still undefeated.

Just read up on this.
Apparently it's adapted from a Frank Miller novel..
Soo... that usually means good gratuitous violence.

And Floki from Vikings is in it so I may give it a shot.

Netflix is the hero this world deserves, as well as the one it needs right now. I'll give this a watch starting tomorrow. I have a legitimate boner for Arthurian legends and have been working on an adaptation myself.

Sword in the Stone is solid

But Excalibur captures the rise and fall so well while paying tribute to all characters

Whereas Sword and the Stone is mostly a Merlin movie

Arthur is black. So tired of this cultural appropriation.

It's funny how that term never seems to apply to Caucasians or their culture isn't it??

I'm sure someone on Twitter will try to justify it by saying there were "historical reports" of Arthur being dark-skinned, just like they do with Bethoven, Jesus, etc.

Don't get more white European historical than King Arthur... But who cares. We'll shut up and take it.

Haha. Dude.
King Arthur is only legend. Stories. Fiction.

It's a wonderful romanticized depiction of knights of old. One chaste, one brave, one faulty, one redemption, one glory, etc.

Who cares what color they are? We all know that the little island that is now known as Britain was 99.99% white.
Remember when the Robin Hood stories had a Moor? And he helped? And treating him as an equal was a thing?

frick off with your hate.

Personally, I think this wasn't as well done of an adaptation as it could have been. But it's also one of millers weakest stories.

Try Bernard Cornwall's Arthur's trilogy if you want a fun read.

There are strong cases by many historians that Arthur was a real person.

But ya know, if he wasn't and was "only Legend. Stories. Fiction." then that means it's time for Black Panther, a made up comic, to be made into a Caucasian with no problems, right?

You are derailing the subject.

But sure. A comic book character named Black Panther who is from Africa and uses his money and weird ancient powers to fight crime could be white. Maybe a Tarzan? Or a Charles quartermine?

Or maybe just Batman rewritten as an black guy.

It's the same stories just race altered, and it really doesn't matter in the long run.

Would you care if citizens of krypton were darker skinned? Hell, it may make more sense if they are powered by the sun. Seems like they would have at least a tan.

Ummm.. what?

Jonathan Vilma
Was a solid linebacker for the Saints when I joined this site.

He was an intricate part of the superbowl run and I will always remember that year with fondness.

I will concede that "hate" is a strong accusation but I stand firm that simply casting a different race lead is no reason to despise a story.

Agreed, but that's not how this works. People of other races, genders, or sexualities cannot understand what it's like to play people who aren't like them. It's the "new normal" of entertainment in our SJW world.

ETA: I do think doing this detracts from some roles when the character is clearly depicted in a way that makes no sense, such as a black King Arthur.

It's not like "Hamilton" where basically everyone is race swapped. Arthur sticks out like a sore thumb. It detracts from the narrative.

We watched Excalibur in 9th grade in English Lit, I was mesmerized then and it's still one of my favorite movies ever. I'll give this series a shot because I'm still fascinated with the story. I loved the late 90s Merlin miniseries with Sam Neill too, anybody know if it can be found anywhere?
