Seems more like the exact opposite of this is what is actually happening. I don't see anyone calling it a masterpiece.

The reviews from places like the New York Times and the Washington Post are very positive. The general public has a much lower ranking than the critics.

And there was the "most intellectual" claim as well. As if plot holes and shitting on the original fans were intellectual virtues.

This makes me laugh. What was intellectual about it?

they destroyed the rules of the Force from the OT to create a confusing bunch of shite and since it's confusing, it's seen as intellectual both by post-modernist influenced thinkers who don't believe in rules as well as people who aren't that smart but think they're supposed to find confusing things intellectual and complex so they don't get exposed as being not that smart

If anything, it was pretty actively anti-intellectual.

What the story of this character? What was the motivation of this character? Why did this one change? What was the unifying theme of this movie?

Answer: Don't worry your pretty little head about it. Just because, that's why.

The only conclusion I think you can make is they are equating the politics with intellect. Because it was not a well crafted story, a well edited film, or a film that developed existing plot lines.

It doesn't explore novel new possibilities for star wars either. The yin/yang dark side/light side avenue was never developed. The value of the major characters of metaphors to introduce morality has been eroded. The value of education itself is arguably under frontal assault. People with advanced training and expertise enjoy no additional benefits and mentorship as a worthy pursuit is denigrated.

I didn't find one thing about that movie intellectual. It wasn't smart or clever.

The responses were filled with cheap shots, let it go, sarcasm, and claims of racism/sexism along with the complete refusal to look at the film in a different way.

Wow. You went from a kid having a complaint about a movie to directly sending him to therapy. I guess that’s why we have different takes on the movie. Complaints aren’t met with therapy in my family. Btw, he loved the movie. Just thought too many girls in it
