Just finger ep 5 when the old Miyagi pics get put back out and he take so out the gi.....then that music plays....it his you so hard at just how incredibly well done the original film was...music, score, acting, story,...everything.

I can't discern if it's by design or result, but Johnny's character is the most deplorable yet likeable role I can recall in quite a while. He's morally bankrupt, machiavellian and obviously abusive. I can't think of one admirable trait he has. But I still like him. Basically the complete opposite for Daniel - responsible, hard working, sense of goodness, values, yet still somehow not likeable.

There is no clear cut Protagonist or Antagonist in the first season. You're supposed to like/dislike them both at times. That will obviously change in season 2.

I was a huge fan of the first 9.5 episodes, but I thought Diaz's turn was weak and way too quick. It sorta felt like they realized halfway in that they loved what they had and needed a second season so they had to scrap the original ending.
I'm glad we get a second season, but the way they did it didn't feel right.

We instinctively root for the guy down on his luck and not the successful guy who has it all.
Plus, we remember the end of Karate Kid, Johnny wasn't a dick but his sensei was and just instilled that in him. This is the only way Johnny knows how to come back. He says it's the only thing he knows how to do...he sucked and got fired as a repairman.
So it's easy to root for Johnny.

Just rewatched Karate Kid and this series has really changed my view of the film. I hate Daniel now.

Daniel-son is actually 5 years older than Mr. Miyagi was in the original. The man is ageless. He could still pass for 35-40.

Rewatched KK part 1 today- Kreese is to blame for Johnny and his crew behavior. Felt bad for Bobby as i thought he could beat Daniel. Also that other asian fighter seemed better than Daniel.

You can't own or trademark a style of karate. You can trademark the name of a karate dojo, but Cobra Kai is a style not just a dojo.
