Lol. We’re not friends but I went to school with her from elementary through high school. None of this really surprises me.

If the press really dug around they would find some juicy stuff on her and her family.
It’s been one year since I got cut. Was there for almost 14 years. We got a new manager in our department about 2 years prior and when the cuts came it seemed as if all of us that he didn’t hire got let go.

Been with a new company for about 5 months now and they sent an email 3 weeks ago and said 2000 people will be let go by end of March. Global company so it could be from anywhere. I’m puckering a little but nothing I can do to stop it.

Just keep resume updated and looking out for something new if needed.
Never worked for Worley. Although I did apply to an open position there yesterday.

Company I worked for does offshore work. Design and build turret mooring systems on FPSOs.

The offer is from Air Products as a mechanical / piping materials engineer. Very qualified for it but it would be new processes for me instead of the offshore upstream work.

Why the deadline? You have competition for the Job?

That’s their deadline per the offer. I can go back to them before with any questions. Not sure if they have other candidates.

What you made at a job that's no longer an option is pretty much irrelevant.
You either need the job or you don't. Only you can answer that. Other viable offers would increase your leverage tremendously.

Yes that’s what I’ve been thinking. I don’t work there any more so it’s not like I am trying to beat that to jump somewhere else. The reason I would take the job is to get insurance for my family and to have money coming in. The severance is nice to have as a backup. Was hoping to save a lot of it for kids college funds.

the role similar (accountabilities, dimensions, knowledge reqts, 14-yr experience that you carry) to previous role?

Similar but some new processes that would be a learning curve.

Similar in retirement benefits, vacation, health, dental, vision, life, etc)

Insurance more. 401k only 50% match to 8%. 3 weeks vacation.

Similar in work/life flexibility?

Hybrid working. About same distance commute.

Offer you intrinsic value (higher bonus opps, teach you new skill, etc)?

7% discretionary bonus which is less than I got before.

Do you have certifications, PE, special skills they are not valuing?

Don’t have my PE. Never needed it for my job so didn’t get it.

It’s was $260k before taxes. Cleared about $190ish.

While that sounds like a good plan, I have 3 kids to think about. Oldest just started high school this year so not really looking to move him now after just moving into a new district this year.

Would you take this job?

A little background, I was laid off from my engineering job of almost 14 years at the end of February. Worked for a project based EPC engineering company and they have no projects on the horizon so a lot of people were let go. No hard feelings for the company (maybe for my boss who has only been there for a few years but thats another story) as they gave me a severance of about 1.7 years worth of pay.

I took a few weeks to get my head straight then started looking. Interviews with a few companies. One finally progressed to get an offer.

I got an offer today of $30,000 less than I was making at my former employer ($145,000 to $115,000). Was willing to take less for a new job but was hoping it wasn’t this much of a cut. Would also be paying more for insurance than I was before so take home would be even less.

I have insurance paid by my old company until about the middle of May until I have to go on COBRA or find through the marketplace.

Have until Monday to accept but I was going to go back and ask if they can bump it up to 125 to 130.

My wife thinks I should tell them no but I am just thinking to take it and still look around. Really thinking just for getting insurance for my family. And having money coming in at least. They will evaluate in 6 months and may bump up but not sure how long before I get back to what I was making.

TLDR: Laid off in February and got offered job today for $30,000 less than I was making at old job.

Sorry for such the long post.

Which ACE had them? I hate when they are so rusty you can't read the H,F,C on them

I’m in Cypress / Tomball area. They were in the cabinet with all the electrical breakers.

This one was pretty bad. It was actually from 2008 and not 2004 like I thought.

Last night when I walked out to the outside unit, the fan was blowing but the compressor wasn’t on. We just moved into this house and have the home warranty but figured a $20 try is better than $150 for some crappy hvac tech that the warranty people will send.

AC capacitor replacement

Don’t post much at all but read daily. Thanks to all that talk about having an extra capacitor on hand.

Right before going to bed last night and my wife tells me that the ac is blowing hot in our room. Being 9 at night, it was a little late to start pulling the ac apart. Slept in 80 degree room last night.

Took today off from work, pulled the panel on the outside unit and found the capacitor. Rusted and original to the unit, 2004. Googled the capacity and found out Ace Hardware carried them.

Took old one out put new one in and noticed that the fan was running backwards. After reading the wiring diagram I noticed that I had the Herm and Common wires backwards. Switched them and fan started spinning the right way. Cool air is now flowing and wife is happier. The old one was so rusted I couldn’t read the top where it showed the labels.

Going to order a spare for that unit and one for the other unit. Where do you all order your spare ones from? Amazon? The one from Ace is made in China so would prefer and made in US one. Thanks.
I spoke too soon earlier. Just went out here in Lakewood Glen in Cypress.
Flickered last night at 11:45 but never went out for good. Cypress / Lakewood Glen area.

re: No Wifi on Ipad

I've done both.

When I reset the iPad and tried to setup as new, it asks to choose a wifi network, but doesn't display any to choose from.

No Wifi on Ipad

Posted by Iknownothing on 9/9/20 at 12:09 pm
Need a little help with my son's Ipad Mini 4. He hasn't used it in a while and with doing virtual learning I wanted to set it up to do zoom on it while he has his laptop screen for work. I turned it on and noticed that the wifi was turned off. I tried to turn it on but it is greyed out. Also tried the control center and it has a line through the wifi icon.

I plugged it into a machine to update it through itunes and did, but it still is not showing the wifi.

We had the screen replaced a few months back and I was thinking that they damaged the wifi antennae somehow.

Probably will order a new one and replace, but was wondering if anyone else has had or seen this issue.

re: Update: Christmas Bonuses

Posted by Iknownothing on 12/3/18 at 2:21 pm to
I have been with my company for 11 years now and have gotten an end of year bonus every year on the second to last paycheck except for last year. It came and went and management didn't say anything until the day before the last paycheck of the year, 3 or 4 days before Christmas. They didn't meet revenue and had to wait for the parent company before bonus handout. Many people were ticked off that nothing was said until the email at the end.

In February of this year, an email was sent out stating that the end of year bonus is now going to be paid out in the first quarter of next year. This gave people time to plan ahead for this year, which I believe is the right thing to do.

I guess the TLDR version would be to tell them right away, as many will be counting on that bonus for Christmas. And get rid of the party and make it a potluck or something with minimal company funds.

re: Auto Store Battery Testers

Posted by Iknownothing on 11/27/18 at 8:16 pm to
Just chiming in to add that I have a 2016 Pilot also and had to change my battery a few months back. Noticed it was cranking really slow for a few days then went on start it on a Sunday morning and it just clicked. Took it out and brought it to Napa and they tested it and it was bad. I thought it was odd for a two year old battery to go bad so soon also.
