Top Gun was filmed with zero special effects.
Are you telling us that this scene actually happened IRL?
To OP: was this the same person that said TLJ was the best Star Wars movie?

I know what you're saying. I'm just letting you know that it's bullshite, because it is.
One movie being better than another movie isn't an objective concept and there's no way to objectively say one is better than the other. That's subjective and it's your opinion. Nothing more. Period.

Nope. Historically and critically you're wrong. Saying that the Godfather is a better movie than Glitter is accurate and correct. No amount of one person enjoying Glitter more than Godfather can change that.

So 2001 didn't change the genre? Inspire many? Create new filming techniques? Wow you have a bone to pick with a ton of literature out there.

No, I'm not. You've given opinions of what is best and you're trying to define what best means for others. That's not how it works and it doesn't give you objectivity.

That's not how objectivity works, either.

None of that makes something objectively better than anything else. You also left off several of the "facts" that weren't facts.
You're wrong. Give it up.

Okay all movie opinions are equal and no one is right or wrong because its all subjective. Whatever you say.
Like what? The fact that Kubrick is an all time great? Or the fact that before 2001, written sci fi was viewed as a pulp genre for magazines? I know you don't like the movie, but that doesn't mean you can discount history.

Not true, mathematicians have calculated that CM is, indeed, the worst movie ever made.

I'm glad you finally caught up.
That wasn't so bad.

Thanks for showing me the way. I now know that all the literature out there about 2001 is wrong
It's all subjective.

I'm old enough to remember both in the theaters.
I really wanted to like Blade Runner, but didn't. It was boring as hell, and took itself a bit too seriously. I never thought it was as profound as some people claim it was.
Top Gun, in my opinion, could be considered a masterpiece- because it set out to be a certain type of film, and had certain goals. It hit each goal probably as well as you will ever see; I don't think anything is going to top it in that genre.
Now, does that make it "better"... that's for the viewers to decide.
My vote is for the very well made fun movie, over the muddled and uneven philosophical one.

I've seen Blade Runner only once. I've seen Top Gun too many times to count. It's a matter of taste, but Top Gun is easily the more entertaining movie between the two of them. Blade Runner is one of those movies you only see once but never forget.

Blade Runner might be the "better" film but Top Gun is far more entertaining and I'd much rather watch it 99% of the time.
