I watched this movie for the first time last year and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

As they say, there are rules…
But we know from the film she was considering it and Rick thought Captain Renault would.
The whole transaction has one of the film’s best lines.

Annina: Monsieur Rick, what kind of a man is Captain Renault?
Rick: Oh, he's just like any other man, only more so.

A great line. So many great lines in Casablanca. Bogart sure knew how to deliver them also.

I'm thinking he would have, he was Rick's friend but he wasn't a saint. He would have hit it

FIFY
Very true.
However if I make that claim I’m frequently dismissed as indulging in gross hyperbole. I tone it down some to evangelize and bring in converts. I believe it’s the best film ever made. It’s only competitors, in my opinion, are The Best Years of Our Lives, It’s A Wonderful Life, Barry Lyndon, and, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance .
The whole story behind how the play it’s based on ended up being the movie Casablanca became is book worthy. Several in fact have already been written.

I've seen Casablanca many times and I would agree it's the best film ever made. They truly caught lightning in a bottle. There are lots of stories out there on how the shoot was a complete mess from beginning to end because the ending wasn't set until the last minute. The true magic was made by Curtiz's directing and Owen Marks's editing. I think in anyone else's hands it would have been a slog of a movie.

Did you really mean to leave the impression with viewers that Rick and Ilsa made love before developing their strategy to leave Casablanca?
Of course we did! If we had the freedom we have today… we would have made it so clear… you would have heard the bed squeaking on the sound track!
