It's the Chinese. Or the Russians. Something. It's just not a good movie. We know that.

Production budgets don’t include advertising and marketing

Box office numbers also don't include merchandising or promotional revenue.

So like $50?
cable's theater charges $15 a ticket.
That's gonna be way more than $50.

Just look how far out of wack it's foreign total is as a percentage of total:
This is sarcasm, right? Did you read your chart?
CM's foreign $ percentage is in line with a couple avengers, a couple Thors, captain Americas, ant-mans, doctor strange, and an iron man. It's lower than several of them.
It also made $35 million domestic this weekend even as a movie opened against it with $70. It just held its own against the highest opening of a live-action ORIGINAL story since Avatar.
I'm sorry you don't like it. I don't really like the movie. It's successful.

And yet it will outperform Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Winter Soldier.
All of those must not have benefited from the "built universe and established fan base"
I feel like my post was completely lost on you

Or, more likely, it was just pointless.

Speaking of someone hellbent on arguing for this movie

You made a stupid point. Just pointing it out for you.

No I didn't. You touting that his movie will make $1 billion as some sort of major achievement after 10 years and almost 2 dozen movies of universe building and a month out for the biggest movie in the MCU's history is pretty stupid though.

It seems your point was CM is doing as well as it is b/c it's part of a movie series.
However, GCT then points out that if that were the only reason it was doing so well it wouldn't have already outperformed several other recent movies that are also in the MCU.

Nowhere did I say it was the only reason.

It's a fair point. Marvel has this machine running on all cylinders right now. This movie doesn't hit a billion if it were part of phase 1.

No, it isn't. How many MCU films have hit $1 billion, champ? Make up whatever excuses you need to feel better about the film's success. They're still stupid.

Making as much as Iron Man made at the point would be a negative?

It would not do what it is doing if it was the first MCU movie instead of the most recent, that's all.
