For an accurate comparison you really need to divide a movie in 2019's gross in half for a fair comparison, then subtract out the over inflated foreign numbers. So say, 1/2 of domestic would be accurate for CM. We'll just say it's earned an adjusted $100 million.

Holy shite

It will finish as the MCUs top grossing non-sequel/Origin story not named Black Panther.

I enjoyed this movie a lot, but this claim isn't really saying much. This movie is greatly benefiting from the built universe and established fan base. If this movie was released in Iron Man's place, it wouldn't make as much as it is today.

Didn't mean it was a bad movie or anything, like I said I really liked it.

They were $5 in 2002 and they are $15 today. I'm not even counting the IMAX/3-D prices, that's just a the basic cost for a primetime showing for a "regular" movie"

You do know that not all prices are the same around the country?

Regular price for me is 10.39 and 14.76 for Dolby cinema

What’s interesting is that with inflation considered, it’s middle of the pack and would finish behind all 3 Iron Man movies.

And yet it will outperform Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Winter Soldier.

All of those must not have benefited from the "built universe and established fan base"

I'll give you Iron Man bc Downy's charisma(with a clever script) is what really makes that movie a success but I'd still say it's not any worse than the other origin movies.

Iron Man 2 adjusted for inflation domestic is $358 million. You don't think Captain Marvel is going to get there?

Not sure what you call "inflation" but whatever standard you use how do all the other MCU movies compare to the 3 Iron Man movies "with inflation"

Let’s face it, it had the same people who watched those movies plus the feminists who wouldn’t normally watch MCU but will show out because of a female lead. Black panther was the same thing essentially. They benefited from already having the core MCU audience and adding on top of that. Not rocket science.

While the first Iron Man unquestionably launched the MCU aren't #2 & #3 considered the lower tier of MCU movies?

Box office asside dues does anyone think they are better films than anything except the early MCU origin stories?

Here's the entire MCU adjusted for inflation.

Keep in mind, Captain Marvel has only been out 3 weeks:

Which would put it in the upper half, not "middle of the pack".

Thank you for that.

Iron Man 3 and Ultron(I secretly enjoy this movie more than most) being in the top 5 are proof of the power of sequels not the quality of the movie

You also have to subtract the #AlitaChallenge, Brie Larson is a man-hater folks that normally would see an MCU film that skipped this one.

Let's call it a push.

Yeah, but it has no legs. Probably won't even hit $321,500,000. My theater was empty.

Even if it made zero dollars going forward, It still doubled it's cost of $150 million (which includes advertising and marketing).

And it will make a billion dollars globally.

We'll see these same people complaining about the success of the inevitable sequel. Grown arse men with sandy vaginas.

It's being propped up by overseas numbers.

Just look how far out of wack it's foreign total is as a percentage of total:
