After seeing how season 5 was going, I didn't think I'd be able to rewatch the show because the final season was so depressing.

If you rewatch the scene, you can tell when he gets hit. He flinches and makes a quick jolt of pain noise.

He got shot right near the end of the belt of ammo. You can hear him grunt when he gets hit. Could've been a ricochet that got him, but it was noticeable.
