Just started this series and I'm about 20% done with The Blade Itself.
It's dark but I find myself really enjoying. Anyone else read the series? Thoughts?

I liked it. It is very very dark, but the characters are very intriguing. Glokta is probably one of my favorite characters ever.
I only read the trilogy, but there a are a few one-off books that look pretty good too.

I want to read it but its not available on iBooks, and I'm too lazy to go to a bookstore anymore.

Thanks horsesandbulls

I enjoyed it just as much as GOT. It's a much easier read too.
After you read the trilogy check out Abercrombie's other books. Same universe and alot of the same characters

i'm finishing the third book (last argument of kings) right now. i've really enjoyed the series. looking forward to reading abercrombie's other books next. it is dark humor/drama but i like that kind of thing.

reading it based on the recommendation of a friend. Finished the first one and now I need to pick up the second one.
Blade was very good and I'm itching to get my hands on the second one

Great trilogy and Abercrombie's one off books set in the same world are even better IMO. Abercrombie is right up there with Martin as one of the best fantasy authors around right now. And he gets books out consistently, which is even better.

I have the entire trilogy but i haven't read them yet

I loved them. If you're into audiobooks, you should check that out. Steve Pacey reads them, does amazing voices and perfectly times his voice for Abercrombie's gallows humor.

He wrote it to be purposefully unsatisfying, Joe books follow a certain formula that get easily predictable. Of course there is also no real resolution and if that is your thing then you might enjoy it.
His book is like a football game between two good team but instead of having a winner or a loser declare after they play , they are tied instead no winners.

What? Every single one off book has a clear resolution, and the end of the first law trilogy has a clear resolution as well. Not sure what the heck you are talking about.
Now it is definitely a series with no true good or bad guys, only grey characters.

I agree, I enjoyed them at first but at some point the unsatisfying ending stopped being a cool, different thing and just became unsatisfying.

Grey characters, to me, make the story more relatable.

good decision. Red Country (Best Served Cold and the Heroes also) wouldn't be as good without reading the trilogy first.

This is a good idea. You meet ancillary characters in the trilogy who later become major players in the stand alones.
Say one thing for Abercrombie, say he does get a tad predictable.

Hey now, you have to be realistic.
All authors have certain things that make them a bit predictable. I thought hey changed up his MO a fair bit with Red Country really.
I'll be interested to see what an Abercrombie young adult novel looks like with his next book. That idea is a bit mind boggling.
