I thought it was much better than the rotten tomato score that it got.

So you're saying that Thorin is a good looking dude and that you are attracted to him huh?

no, I'm saying it seems pretty obvious they tried to pretty him up.

My GF didnt even realize he was a dwarf until they did his back story midway through b/c he looks like a normal human.

seriously though look at the average dwarf in LOTR/Hobbit

now look at Thorin

it would be hard to know he is supposed to be a dwarf unless you were told.

they even released pics that make him look similar to Aragorn

The pictures you show are exactly my point in the OP.

Dwarves in LOTR looked tough and pretty damn awesome.

Most of the Dwarves in Hobbit were cartoonish.

I know it was a lighter story, but still.

Golem was awesome, the movie was good, I just think it could have been better.

I really liked it and it was one of the most unfairly criticized movies I can think of. The movie isn't The Lord of the Rings. Its tone and scope are much different. Anyone who has read both books knows this. It was a great translation to film though and I approve of most the changes.

I think it sets up for a really good second movie.

Aside from Gollum's scenes, most the good stuff happens in the later 2/3rds.

agreed

I honestly think the problem is that Peter Jackson has become too big to be told no by the people around him.

I have many of the same issues with his version of King Kong. Overuse of CG that is matted poorly, pointless scenes that extend the films length and hurt pacing, tone issues between characters etc...

Right after I was done I talked to a friend about it and we both agreed that the first Hobbit is similar in many ways to the first LOTR.

And I mean that in the sense that people who didn't read the books were pretty upset about the ending and at times slow pace of Fellowship.

I'll be watching the rest of The Hobbit, I just hope they get a little bit better.

Why does every dwarf have an ugly fat hairy face aside from Thorin who looks like a wannabe Aragorn? Seems painfully obvious some a-hole in marketing wanted a good looking dude for women to look at.

Well, this guy certainly wasn't:

my reasons to downgrade it

I thought the dude who played Radagast sucked and went way too cheesy with his portrayal. He flat out did not fit the tone of the rest of the film. He would have come off poorly even in a Harry Potter film.

There was a massive over reliance on CG. Every single orc being CG made it start to feel like a George Lucas bullshite-a-thon.

I personally didn't like the lighting. Thought it blatantly looked like they were on a movie set b/c they didn't do a good job matching real people with all the CG they crammed in there.

The pacing was poor. IMO it would have really helped if the opening narration and Thorin's backstory had all been told at once instead of broken up.

also, this is really getting nit picky but having Gandalf use the same black out the lights while I yell something important at you move that he pulled on Bilbo in LOTR was lame.

All these are legit. I thought the dwarves were too cartoonish.

If you are a fan of the hobbit and LOTR I could give a shite if the movie was 5 hours.

Smeagol/Gollum was badass. Wish they would have done all the riddles and not just some.

People bitching about 3 movies for the last year will be devastated to find out that if the movie would have been 2 like originally planned, it would have been cut down to a 2 minute scene instead of 10 minutes scene or however long it was.

GTFO with this. It has already proved that 3 movies needed to be done. I'm not going over this shite again.
