The popularity of the series has only grown over the years and after the three stars read Knight’s most recent draft, all were on board to return for the third film. The next step was finding a director; according to sources, the search was thorough with not only Black Label and Thunder Road producers meeting potential candidates but the lead cast having their own meetings as well. In the end, McKinley came away as the most impressive candidate, winning the job.

Interesting spin on this series would be JB's character has been corrupted. EBs character discovers his involvement with cartels and despite her moral struggles to so has to rely on BDT to help take him out.

Anyway....

He would write it I believe

He didn’t direct the original one, which honestly is probably why it’s such a classic. Denis gave it a huge visual style bump that I don’t think he can really bring to the table and according to the production into, he spent a lot of time cutting out the fat of the original Sicario script. The original script was a lot more tell than show and included a lot of voice over monologues

They will list guys as "based on characters by" sometimes so that doesnt always mean he is involved.

I feel like Sheridan's stuff gets worse the more leash you give him. And by 'leash' I don't necessarily mean creative control. He is incredible on the initial ideas for stories, characters, settings, etc but when it comes to expanding those with any depth the results are very mixed.
