Anybody catch this? 8 episode zombie show on Netflix (although it was renewed for another season). It's a pretty easy watch, as the episodes are not terribly long (a couple are 45+ minutes, then some 30-ish minute ones, and some 20-ish minute ones).

I like it well enough. But man oh man, it started off solid and then went to shite in the last episode and a half or so. I'm interested enough to check out a second season, but it will be on a short leash though. It has a very "Z Nation" vibe to it, but it's not as good as ZN (and that was one that I liked initially, and then disliked after about a season and a half or two).

What are everyone's thoughts on it?

It's sort of broken down into chapters (each scene is named), if you will. Like it will say "Nature Show" and then what follows is the group walking and coming across zombies chasing and eating a couple. Or it will say "A Plan" and then show a group trying to get out of their situation. I'm not sure if I like how it does scenes like that, or if I hate it. It definitely seems like a weird way to do it though.

The show is not very well acted at all. Some of the actors are okay, and some are just hilariously bad. Hell, even the zombie acting suck in some spots. In the Downtown/Stadium episode, one woman zombie gets shot and literally sits down then lies down (as opposed to falling like a sack of bricks). It was like the director said action, but she didn't want to hurt herself.

The Korean chick (Sun) had WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much dialogue. Especially when she is speaking Korean and there are no subtitles. I watch NF with subtitles, and literally all it says is "Speaking Korean" when she talks. Yet she has tons of minutes of screen time, and none of the characters know what the frick she is saying.

I had some major gripes while watching:

I loved how Velez, Barbara, and Sun were mad that they didn't lose that truck after literally one single turn. The truck was behind them, they made a right turn (in a fricking minivan, no less), and then were perplexed as to why/how the truck was still following them.

I liked the school/kids episode, but some of it was dumb. Rose didn't want to shoot the kids even though they kidnapped your friend and literally just said they were gonna shoot you. Not to mention they also kidnapped/trapped you and performed psychological warfare on you and your friends too. And she also wanted to give their only gun away?

And in that episode, why the hell would they not say "Hey, that dude is deaf and can't hear what you're saying" as soon as the kids were like "Don't move or we'll shoot you"??? That death seemed entirely avoidable if you just tell the kids that he can't hear.

The amount of wasted ammo on the show is laughable. Why the hell would you not try shooting the zombies in the head, especially after shooting them everywhere else ten times isn't working? It seems like something you'd at least TRY.

All these people are casually walking around with no weapons, even in a dark grocery store. Just doesn't seem smart at all. Even if you have a hammer or a screwdriver or something, at least arm yourself with something to protect yourself if you see a zombie. And the dude even puts his groceries onto the checkout lane area? What the frick? Just walk out with what you need, dude.

It's established in the show that the zombies are easily distractible. Yet the heavy bearded dude wasn't even closing doors behind him in that fire station. Just weird shite like that kept happening that made little to no sense whatsoever.

The weapons/club episode was weird as hell. First off, what was that place? We know nothing about it, but everyone seems to know their way around it. And why the hell would they let them waltz in and steal all of the weapons? Seems like you may want to guard that stash of guns and ammo.

And why would they not go out the same way they went in? Instead, they get into the fricking air ducts? WTF? And were they really trying to trade the blonde for stuff? Because that huge dude was 100% about to rape her when the lights went out. Had that taken 30 more seconds she would've been violated.

Finally, the last episode (the Downtown/Stadium episode).
Wow...this thing falls off the rails here.

Ammo, ammo, ammo...these people finally find weapons and ammo and they shoot about 50 rounds at one zombie? And they are just completely inept and unsafe on how they are shooting. I realize it's chaos and all that, but everyone is just opening fire on zombies with other people literally standing ten feet behind the zombies. WTF.

Even Velez shoots the shotgun at his waist every time. And at one point he literally walks directly through someone else's crossfire. Like he literally was standing in front of the gun as the guy was firing it. It's just sloppy and VERY poorly planned and executed.

And they finally get to the stadium, and nobody is on the field? Literally just the three of them? There were hundreds of people running around five minutes ago, and the field is empty and pristine.

And she sees her daughter, and end credits. Hahaa. It's almost like they were like "Okay, we need to end this thing..." and instead of coming up with an actual ending, they just literally shut the cameras off.

Anyway, I know that's a lot of thoughts about a mediocre show. But I was wondering if anybody else has watched this and what you thought about it (or about my points above). Is anybody gonna check out S2?

Didn't S1 come out like 3 years ago. I watched it and remember being interested in a second season at the time.

It wasn't a comedy though, right? Z-Nation was very funny and campy. I don't remember this being that way at all.

I'd be in for a second season. I'll have to rewatch S1 though.

It's been out for a while. Google tells me it came out in April of 2019.

No, definitely not at all. It's very serious. However, there are aspects of it that are pretty hilarious, it's just not on purpose.

Please do, and report back here. I'd love to hear your thoughts on a rewatch, mainly to see if the show is as ridiculous as I think it is or if I am missing the mark.

That is a lot written about a show with no plot. It was a collection of scenes in a zombie universe, but there was nothing there.

Weirdly, it's not. It's not awesome, and there are parts that are bad, yes. But all in all it was enjoyable enough. Plus, I like the zombie/survival-type situations enough that it kept my interest. If you have a few hours, give it a shot...it's a pretty easy watch honestly. And like I said, some of the episodes are less than 30 minutes. I'd imagine you could watch the entire thing in an evening pretty easily.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on writing that much, but then shite just kept popping into my head.

And "a collection of scenes in a zombie universe" is a good way to put this show. There isn't much plot outside of "we need to get to the stadium" and we don't get very much info about the characters. And like I said above, it almost feels like chapters in the way it is presented. And the chapters range from bad to really good.

I generally agree with your take.

the gunfire was inconsistent. Its like they could Spray 45 bullets and not kill 1 zombie, or run away sporadically half turning to spray 20 bullets racking up 15 headshots, depending on what needed to happen for the plot. sometimes theyd take like 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get around 1 zombie and other times they just wing it against a horde.

There was a lot to complain about, but still overall pretty enjoyable watch if you can get past some things. will watch season 2 because I enjoy zombie shows.

Yeah, for example I didn't get why the diner scene was so complicated. Just go out and kill the two zombies. They couldn't have been more inept with that I don't think. Hell, you could've let one in at a time and then had 5 on 1 chances to handle it more easily.

It also seemed like the capabilities of the zombies changed depending on the plot and situation as well. In the diner episode, those two zombies ran around like madmen around the diner over and over, and were incessant despite not really being able to see them in the diner. But in the Lance episodes, he would run from one (or several) and as soon as he turned a corner or was out of sight, they were no longer chasing after him or could no longer sense where he was.
