I just watched this shite while recovering from sinus surgery. I was told I needed to see it before infinity war.

Man it sucked. I was so disappointed. He looked like a cool arse character when he was introduced in civil war.

I can't believe how shitty the movie was.

Titanic's success is because it was a good movie, it wasn't hyped due to a political climate and wanting "culcha." Nice try though.

I liked Black Panther much more than Titanic.

Titanic used to be famous for the devotion it inspired in teen girls with a crush on DiCaprio, so who knows? I just thought it was a good effects movie with a really by the numbers romantic plot.

I don't know why a lot of people on this board dislike Black Panther. It wasn't the greatest movie I've ever seen, but it was fun and likeable. I watched it right around Thor: Ragnarok and think of the two very similarly. Not the Godfather, but good, fun movies.

You can’t deny the white crowd is a little envious of its successs. The black community finally got its own comic hero. They’ve watched many white heroes before this hero.
It’s not even a real thing in life. Just let it go and the community enjoy something of their own.

How many people cared about the titanic before Leonardo decarprio made a movie about it?

People didn't go see the Titanic because a young and somewhat unknown DiCaprio was in it.

Titanic story was a huge 20th century phenomenon that was widely taught in every school and part of the public's imagination at large.

Kids read the book A Night To Remember in school growing up.

They made a movie about the sinking only 29 days after it sunk.

Then they made the movie A Night To Remember which historians say brought in the era of disaster-film genre.

Titanic made $130 million in two weeks. That's because the story was universally known and part of American culture.

Black Panther, not so much. What percentage of the population reads comic books? It's less than 1%.

+1 I'm just going to assume that poster is very young.

The amount of people that seem truly desperate to tag an asterisk on this movie's performance is mind boggling.

Yeah but the vast majority of repeat viewers were young girls who like the love story and had ginny tingles from DiCaprio. Replace Leo with like John Cusack and the it's not the same phenomenon even though the story of the Titanic would've still been well known.

If you didn’t know about the significance of The Titanic before Leo, you need to sue your parents for raising you in whatever separatist cult y’all called education.

By Marvel’s own admission they stated that Iron Man was a lowly fledgling C-list character before taking a gamble on it.

That’s a great point and “they” (writers, producers, RDJ and others) really made it happen.

Odd how they went away from Fantastic Four, sort of.

Why do white people get so mad over this movie? It’s about a black guy trying to stop another black guy who wants to start a black revolution. And arguably the biggest act of heroism in it is performed by a white guy

Comic-book movies make a shite ton of money because people know what they're going to get...mindless action entertainment for 2 hours where parents take the kids to a movie where the dialogue isn't sophisticated and they'll see explosions and fights, etc.

It really doesn't matter who the superhero is - frankly, the characters are new to the movie-goers. Families aren't there in droves because they all read comic-books - they're there for the reliable entertain my kid for 2 hours.

Who knew Iron Man beyond comic-con people? Black Panther?

The public at large knew Batman, Superman and Spiderman and that's it.

The highest # of comic-book readers are Millenials according to rough data on comic websites and that's only 2% of Millenials.

They're action movies with fancy CGI and cool SFX and that's what draws the numbers in droves. Not because they know or care about the characters.

You didn't have to read the novel First Blood to get excited about Rambo.

The average person knew 100X more about Titanic before Cameron's movie than they did about Ant-Man, Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor, Green Lantern, Wolverine, Daredevil combined.

So it wasn't Leo.

This. Statista has a 63% non-african american viewership stat just in America.

I liked the movie. It wasn't my favorite Marvel movie, but enjoyable and will watch again sometime.

I couldn't see any sort of agenda with the movie at all. People bitching about its success have very little actual facts to stand on. Is it a little bit overated? Maybe, so what, lots of movies are. Overall it was a solid movie at the very least.

It blows my mind that this movie domestically beat Infinity War.
