I've watched four of the new season so far:

Common People - I really liked this one. Felt like it was pretty topical and it felt like a more classic BM type of story than recent seasons. The body-harm type angle was sort of out of left field, but it didn't bother me too bad. You could sort of see where it was headed with him having to kill her. but I thought it was pretty well done. I'd place this mid-to-top tier of BM episodes, if for the idea alone.

Bete Noir - I actually really liked this one, even with the completely ridiculous ending. Someone said it earlier, but the "empress of the universe" thing was just plain silly. But outside of that, I did like how they played around with the Mandela Effect thing. And I definitely found myself rewinding the episode a couple of times to see the differences. (By the way, mine was Barnie's originally and the she switched it to Bernie's). Even though the premise of "chicks can't get over some stupid high school bullshite" was retarded, I enjoyed it well enough.

Hotel Reverie - I liked the idea behind this one, but the execution was horrible. The lead black chick was bad bad. I couldn't tell if NF was doing the "change the white man into a black lesbian" thing as tongue-in-cheek and laughing at itself, or if it was legit, but I at least hope it was the former (even though it didn't feel like it was). But the black chick just ruined the episode for me; that's how bad she was. Also, the episode had no business being (I think) an hour and 17 minutes long. They could've done the exact same things in half that time. And if the story was a little tighter, I may have liked it more. All in all, I guess I didn't hate it...but I just didn't like it and it wasn't very good.

Plaything - I really liked this one a lot. I agree with whoever it was that said the ending fell a little flat, and it would've been cool to see the singularity type event. But I also appreciate the open-endedness of it too though. And it was cool to see that the whole thing was a setup for him to infiltrate the security and get the QR code thing into the system and worldwide in a matter of minutes. That was cool. Your imagination had to stretch a bit with it, but hey, it's Black Mirror.

I still have Eulogy and Callister left. I plan on watching Eulogy tonight, and want to rewatch the first Callister before this new one. But I will report back once I am caught up on the season. But even though these episodes aren't overly awesome, I have enjoyed them for the most part and it's always good to have new BM episodes on the menu.

This season is pretty clearly the best overall since S4. Even the stinkers had some kind of redeeming quality. HR is the worst of the pile but the concept was decent and if you get past the main character's awfulness you can convince yourself that it approaches something bordering on average. The good ones were solid to really good.

I hadn't seen the origianl USS Callister since it first dropped years ago so I thought I owed it to myself to watch it before watching this new one. Man I had totally forgotten how fricked up some of that was.

I'm the same. Black Mirror is obviously not "real" and has a ton of futuristic or crazy elements that you have to suspend belief. But the whole "magic remote control where you can do *literally* anything and make anything happen that you desire at the push of a button" is a little much. It just felt a bit lazy and like something a freshman in a HS creative writing class would come up with.

I did love the leadup and tension building though.

I'm not even talking about that part. I mean the "empress of the universe" stuff. That was childish and stupid. But at the same time, if it were a dude as the main character, one of the first things he would do is have every chick on earth want to bang him.

Potential plot hole: Why didn't bad Walton have his gamer tag displayed when he snuck back on the ship and pretended to be good Walton?

Watched Eulogy last night and thought it was pretty damn good. It was obviously carried by Giamatti, but he was really good in it so this the episode was really good.

But the concept was cool and fairly Black Mirror-y, and it’s one of the rare ones that had sort of a happy ending (or not a completely bleak one at least).

Hope to rewatch Callister and the new Callister soon.

Finished the last episode (Callister) after rewatching the original one.

I really liked it a lot. It wasn't as good as the original, but I wasn't expecting it to be. And rewatching the old one, I forgot just how good of an episode of television that is. Man, it's excellent.

But the new one was cool and they were able to get a coherent story out of it all over again. I really liked it, although I'm not sure if I rank it as my favorite from this new season. In my overall rankings of BM episodes, it would be in the top though.

This season:

Top tier:
Plaything
Callister

Mid tier:
Common People
Eulogy
Bete Noire

Low tier:
Hotel Reverie

All in all, a really solid season of BM. Glad to see it get back to form a good bit. Hopefully we continue to get more episodes here and there, and they continue down this path.

2nd one was ok. More straight forward and predictable. Cool ending
I get hit with Mandela effect all the time.

That 2nd one was predictable but liked the aspect. Playthings was weird but another really cool aspect of a singularity event between man and machine
