I need to check that out.

I have a prime MTV memory of being at a house party on two tabs of Reagan-face lsd watching the “Land of Confusion” video by Genesis.

Saw that the documentary was coming on, but I wanted to watch the Stars, so I watched them get down 3-0 and never come back.

It's on A&E's website I couldn't get it to play on my laptop. May try to play it on my phone and cast it to the TV.

The first year of MTV coincided with the first year NLU (now ULM) offered cable in the dorms. MTV started up on August 1, 1981, so it was on our cable when school started. It's nearly the only thing we watched. Even though there were many music videos when they first started, nobody minded them playing the same ones over, and over.

To me that NASA rocket promo was the best thing they ever produced. It got me going in 1981, and I still love it cranked up loud today.

It was a great documentary. Everyone knows what was the first video ever played on MTV was, but I bet 95% of the people didn’t know the second video (it was Pat Benatar - “You Better Run”).
I did not know that just after the first video played, they accidentally dropped the broadcast, and the show was dead air for 5 mins.

I saw lists for the first 25 and the first 30 videos that played on MTV, and was surprised Wall of Voodoo's Mexican Radio wasn't on there. Then I searched for the video, and see it didn't come out until 1983.

The First 30 Videos That Played On MTV on VH1

Did the pot make me want to watch and listen to MTV, or did MTV make me want to smoke pot.
That's a question my .6 GPA in my first semester at LSU mind can't answer.

My earliest MTV memory was my older sister (no pics) came home with a letter her NO Catholic school demanding parents to forbid their children from watching MTV. Basically “MTV is the devil!!”

my friend down the street in town & country had cable (including HBO ) so i would go over to his house & watch MTV for hours on end and catch occasional boobies on R-rated movies HBO played during the day.

I was actually a little pissed that they included that, because it's a fantastic trivia question.

My favorite countdown was the Dr. Demento's Top 20 Most Demented Videos. Mexican Radio made the cut there.

My first memories are the late 80’s MTV and up through the grunge/alternative of the early-mid 90s.. such great memories. A few years ago we had dish network and I had pretty much every episode of Rock Block recorded on DVR and it was so legit to just put it on and let it play, I wish I still had it.

Is that when they were doing Unplugged?

Some of those were great.

Always the contrarian. At least you're consistent.

They're not there yet. The farthest back I've seen any start date for them is 1981.
