Biography: I Want My MTV (A&E)

Did anyone else catch this, last night?
In-depth look at the founding of MTV, particularly by the folks in the front office who did all of the heavy lifting with the record labels, importing New Wave content from the UK, and all the partying.
The one thing I'm left with is an overwhelming sense of sadness for any subsequent generations who didn't get to experience Peak OG MTV from 1981-1987 - from the original VJs, to only music video content. Anyone who thinks that it wasn't all downhill after JJ, Nina, Martha, Alan & Marc left is either fooling themselves, or didn't drink from the firehose that was the first generation of MTV.
Don't come at me with that Real World/Road Rules/Teen Mom horse shite.
Even Remote Control (the game show that marked the first non-video program) was music video-based when you got to the rotating Craftmatic Adjustable Bed bonus round.

It was a golden age, but I doubt anyone would give up the tech that has made MTV outdated.

Is there anywhere currently to stream this?

The media has absolutely been replaced by YT, streaming directly to your phone, etc, but the decision to abandon the video content was made decades before the technology component outkicked the coverage.
It's their fault that reality TV became a thing.

Potentially through On Demand from your cable/satellite provider, but maybe an A&E app?

She went on to get naked in several B movies.

I watched it. It was pretty good. I never knew about the Goodman/Bowie interview where he asked about black performers.
I'd extend it through the 80's.
120 minutes, Headbangers ball, The Young Ones,
It seems everytime I browse channels, the menu for MTV always says Ridiculousness. I have no idea what that is.

I was always angling for that upskirt shot.

Kari and a very young Adam Sandler who occasionally appeared on Remote Control:

AFV for disaffected, slacker milennials.

From the song "Money for Nothing" written by Mark Knopfler and Sting, which won the MTV Video of the Year in 1986. Crying shame that it probably would not be allowed to broadcast on MTV now due to lyrics.

Actually, it was an ad campaign on other networks that they launched shortly after the station got off the ground, using various musicians to encourage folks to call their cable company and demand that they begin to carry the channel.

The Money For Nothing hook was a fringe benefit years later.

Interesting, now I remember those commercials, but failed to equate the two. I guess from that long ago, I had convinced myself it was first from the song.

The Old MTV promo rabbit hole is DEEEEEEEEEEEP.

Yeah, it was the ad campaign.

I think it got better when they started doing the specialty shows in the late 80s like Headbanger's Ball and Yo MTV Raps. It gave national exposure to bands that would otherwise have never been seen in the regular MTV rotation.

Yeah, nothing will top the first few years with the original VJs...mostly because of the great New Wave music that they were playing back then.
