Saw him in concert a couple years ago in Nashville. Went to visit a friend, didn’t even know he was in town, bought tickets that day, and was pissed when he didn’t sing either of these.
But he and Stevie Nicks played until almost midnight in their seventies! Was amazing.

And now with Brian Wilson gone he's the greatest living American songwriter.

I respect Dylan but he's a little overrated IMO. He's still top-5, but I have BJ, James Taylor, Dolly, and Don Henley ahead of him.

I watched the first part, and I never knew he was this big of an assh0le. Not to mention, his music sucked after 52nd St.
Needless to say I won't watch part two, knowing that we have songs like Uptown Girl, For The Longest Time, We Didn't Start the Fire... still to come.

Caught about 1 1/2 hrs so far. Also had never heard of his first wife.
Artie Ripp is a scumbag.
I didn’t realize how early on in his career he wrote piano man. Crazy that if not for the bad contract, he may not have written it at all

I saw him years ago on 60 Minutes. He was asked about why he was successful, and he answered simply "I'm competent. I can sing and play my instrument. I can read and write music. I can do everything I'm supposed to.
You'd be amazed how many people in this business can't do those things".

I agree But I did like BJ’s perspective on him. He basically said that despite all his bullshite, Artie was the only person that believed in him and signed a record deal with him at all. So it seemed like he doesn’t really have hatred for him. I thought that was cool.

10 minutes in to Part 2 and they are promoting the Very Fine People hoax

I agree with this, but it moves on pretty quick. It was a clunky transition to his family background
Crazy to think he was broke again in 1990 after a couple of decades of being insanely successful

It’s crazy that it happened to him twice. It’s no wonder he quit writing/recording after digging his way out of a hole again.
I wish they had touched on the new song just a little bit. I know he didn’t write it, but I wish I knew a little more about how all that came together.
The documentary was INCREDIBLY well done. 5 hours of footage and I never felt like they were dragging anything out or that there was any filler. I’m so glad I got to see Billy Joel in 2019- I would have hated to watch this documentary having not seen him live.

She still is a very pretty lady too.

I was surprised too but I guess at this point he’s got no reason to be bitter and sees how things worked out.
But some people would still be bitter about it. Good for him.

He truly is a musical genius.
Learned alot about him. . . all his marriages fell apart because of his drinking. Christie Brinkley truly loved him. She got all weepy talking about the end of their time together.
Katie Lee made him go to Betty Ford to sober up. It was mentioned that he drank again after the end of their marriage. Is he still drinking?

Wait, they're discussing a lie about something Trump didn't say within a Billy Joel documentary?

Agree, that blew my mind.
Part 1 was excellent and I learned a lot about his journey. Going to start watching part 2 this weekend.

Got to the Christie years last night. It really is amazing how fate works. She just happened to be doing a photo shoot in the same place a friend suggested Billy vacation.
